Overview
The Adult Education Counselor will be responsible for supporting the academic, career, and personal-development needs of adult learners enrolled in Tri-Star Virtual Academy's Adult Education Program. The Counselor provides virtual advising on enrollment, graduation/completion planning, HiSET/GED pathways, and post-secondary or career transition, on an as-needed basis to support program scheduling and learner caseload demands. This is an hourly, non-exempt position with no guaranteed number of hours; assignments are scheduled based on program need.
Essential Duties- Provide virtual academic and career counseling to adult learners, including enrollment guidance, individualized completion plans, and progress monitoring toward high school completion or HiSET/GED goals.
- Advise learners on post-secondary options, workforce training, and career pathways, including referrals to community and workforce-development resources.
- Conduct intake and orientation sessions for newly enrolled adult learners.
- Monitor learner attendance and engagement data, and proactively reach out to learners at risk of disengagement or non-completion.
- Maintain accurate, timely case notes and counseling records in the Academy's student information system in compliance with FERPA and program reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with Adult Education teachers and the Program
- Coordinator to address individual learner barriers (academic, attendance, or personal).
- Refer learners to appropriate support services (e.g., mental health, social services, workforce agencies) as needed, and comply with mandated reporter obligations.
- Participate in required training, professional development, and virtual staff meetings as scheduled.
- Comply with all Stellar Virtual and Tri-Star Virtual Academy policies and applicable Tennessee adult education program requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- 3–5 years of experience counseling adult learners, non-traditional students, or in HiSET/GED or workforce-development programs.
- Familiarity with Tennessee adult education program requirements and community/workforce referral resources.
- Proven experience working independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to manage a digital task list and maintain a stable remote (home-office) infrastructure.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience using the Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Workspace) in a professional setting.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas via written channels with high clarity and low ambiguity.
- Access to a private, reliable, and secure high-speed internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.
Education & Certification Requirements
- Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid Tennessee School Counselor license (PPS endorsement) OR eligibility for a comparable Tennessee counseling credential recognized for adult education programs.
