The Opportunity
A global professional services organization is seeking an experienced Temporary Commercial Contracts Attorney for a temporary assignment expected to last approximately three months, with the possibility of extension. The position is hybrid in New York City: three days onsite; two days remote. The compensation is $70-$80 hourly, with benefits.
Primary Duties
The Temporary Commercial Contracts Attorney will independently manage a busy contracting workload, negotiate with counterparties, advise business teams, and handle a variety of technology and operational agreements. Typical matters may include technology-related agreements, licensing, consulting arrangements, publishing/content agreements, and other operational contracts. The attorney also will work with existing contract templates and internal legal resources, help improve contracting processes and technology, and provide legal guidance to non-legal business teams.
Additional duties include the following:
- Provide general legal advice to various departments and business stakeholders.
- Advise on commercial law, contract formation, and related legal matters.
- Assist with the development and implementation of technology solutions, including contract management systems.
- Provide training and guidance on commercial contracting and related legal topics.
- Work directly with senior management, internal business teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate on additional legal and compliance projects as needed.
- Contribute to process improvements and support the visibility and effectiveness of the Legal and Compliance function.
Requirements
- J.D. and active admission to the New York or New Jersey bar
- Approximately 2–4 years of relevant commercial legal experience
- Background in either in-house legal work or private practice
- Strong experience with contract drafting, review, negotiation, and commercial counseling
- Comfortable handling a high volume of agreements while maintaining accuracy and consistency
- Good understanding of standard commercial terms and business practices
- Strong communication, judgment, organization, and stakeholder-management skills
- Technology/IT contracting experience is helpful
- Nonprofit, academic, scientific, or research-organization experience is a plus
