Technical Systems Engineer

Colorado Springs, CO | 50% Travel Nationwide

@Orchard LLC is supporting a fast-growing firm that is redefining communications for critical and enterprise operations. Our client’s purpose is to keep people connected, no matter what. We build easy-to-operate, hard-to-destroy technology for the people who expect security and performance that never wavers—in defense, industry, and everywhere critical decisions happen. We are seeking a versatile, customer-focused Technical Systems Engineer to support both our client’s Colorado Springs headquarters and customer deployments across the United States.

This is not a traditional IT support position. You'll be equally comfortable troubleshooting network issues, deploying hardware in the field, configuring operating systems, supporting 5G technologies, training customers, and serving as a trusted technical advisor during mission-critical installations.

If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, working directly with customers, and learning emerging technologies, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As a Technical Systems Engineer, you will serve as a key technical resource supporting internal operations, customer deployments, and ongoing system performance.

Deployment & Installation

  • Install, configure, and commission hardware and software systems at customer sites.
  • Deploy and support networking infrastructure, servers, edge computing devices, and wireless communications equipment.
  • Configure operating systems, applications, and network services.
  • Assist customers with new technology rollouts and system upgrades.
  • Verify system functionality and performance during deployment and acceptance testing.

Network & Systems Support

  • Monitor and maintain networked systems and infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and resolve network, hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Support technologies including TCP/IP networking, wireless systems, VPNs, switching, routing, and 5G-related infrastructure.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for technical support inquiries.
  • Escalate complex issues appropriately while maintaining ownership until resolution.

Customer Success & Technical Support

  • Provide world-class technical support via phone, email, remote access, and in-person engagement.
  • Deliver clear technical guidance to both technical and non-technical users.
  • Follow up proactively to ensure successful resolution of customer issues.
  • Build trusted relationships with customers through professionalism, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Conduct customer training and knowledge-transfer sessions.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate service records, issue logs, installation reports, and technical documentation.
  • Create and update knowledge base articles and operational procedures.
  • Track issues through resolution while adhering to service-level expectations.
  • Recommend process improvements and contribute to operational excellence initiatives.

Innovation & Emerging Technologies

  • Learn and support new technologies as SEMPRE's solutions continue to evolve.
  • Participate in testing, evaluation, and deployment of next-generation communications and networking capabilities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to solve complex technical challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical support, network administration, systems administration, field engineering, or a similar technical role.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting computer hardware and software systems.
  • Demonstrated experience administering and supporting wireless communications technologies, including LTE and/or 5G networks.
  • Familiarity with edge computing, virtualization, or cloud technologies.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure or industrial systems. Experience supporting government installations preferred.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 50% nationwide.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as:
    • CompTIA Network+
    • Security+
    • Cisco CCNA
    • Linux+
    • Microsoft certifications
  • Experience with structured cabling, equipment racks, and field installations.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and IT service management practices.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role?

The ideal candidate is:

  • A hands-on problem solver who enjoys figuring out how things work.
  • Comfortable working independently at customer sites.
  • Eager to learn new technologies and adapt quickly.
  • Calm under pressure and capable of managing competing priorities.
  • Customer-focused and committed to delivering an exceptional experience.
  • Equally effective in a data center, office environment, field installation, or customer conference room.

Compensation: Will be based on experience and qualifications. The expected Base salary will be in the range of $95,000 - $108,000, with an OTE of $104,500 to $118,800. Our client offers competitive benefits, including 401K and unlimited vacation.
