Lead and Senior Scientists – Program Ops and Services

Remote work from home with the ability to travel to the DC Metro area

@Orchard LLC is seeking experienced Lead and Senior Scientists to support a highly visible NOAA Satellite Applications and Research program. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting ocean and coastal water remote sensing satellite observation projects. This position is contingent upon contract award.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new products to support research in collaboration with the science teams.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot data management and services to ensure uninterrupted access to data portals and servers.
  • Effectively utilize Artificial Intelligence tools to optimize processes and operations.
  • Support timely updates to processes, product availability, and quality monitoring metrics of products.
  • Ensure uninterrupted availability of portals, websites, and services related to data systems.
  • Provide necessary notifications to users on product updates and features.
  • Support any duties related to assurance work plans and communications.
  • Contribute to publications, posters, and presentations on products and services, including training.
  • Oversee help desk support for products and services.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the field of Marine Science/Marine Biology or Oceanography (or related)
  • Minimum 5 years of ocean remote sensing experience.
  • Preferred experience supporting/leading NOAA Satellite programs, particularly CoastWatch, PolarWatch, or OceanWatch programs.
  • Experience with observations and ocean information products, such as Low Earth Orbit or Geostationary Orbit missions.
  • Strong familiarity with ocean and coastal water remote sensing satellite observation.
  • Experience working with environmental satellite data and related product development activities.
  • Strong preference for applicants with prior experience dealing with data related to sea surface temperature and ocean surface vector.
  • Knowledge of common earth science data formats, metadata, and applications.
  • Knowledge of scientific programming languages such as Python, FORTRAN, JavaScript, Perl, shell script, and MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with Cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical requirements to non-technical audiences.
