REMOTE – VISIT CLIENT SITES IN MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA
ACTIVE SECRET CLEARANCE REQUIRED

Our client has an immediate need for an experienced Optical Engineer with an active DOD Secret clearance to support Government clients with onsite physical installation, implementation, and configuration of Optical Transport technology. The role will require you to travel about 75% of the time to support government sites located in Maryland and Virginia, possibly Washington DC, and you will need to be located so you can drive to each of these areas.  
 
As the Optical Engineer – Deployment Engineer you will.
  • Conduct on-site physical installation, implementation, and configuration of Optical Transport products.
  • Work closely with our client’s teams, the client, and other stakeholders to understand customer’s needs and how to support their network architecture as the on-site, hands-on SME.
  • Leverage your understanding of SONET, DWDM, ROADM (and other (n)OADM configurations), OTN, architecture and provisioning and implementation.
  • Follow test plans for customer network architecture, and interoperability, ensure the functionality and security of equipment, and ensure equipment configurations are in place and working optimally as per design.
  • Follow implementation plans provided by Sales Engineers and provide engineering support in the deployment of customer network the proposed enhancements and modifications to include Layer-0, Layer-1, and Layer-2 processes and configurations.
  • Read/follow network diagrams, cabling guides, and signal flow diagrams.
  • Conduct manual manipulation and installation of varying products from SFP/XFPs (Pluggable) and occasionally to shelves (Up to 75lbs).
  • Manipulate fiber optic patches (Clean, Run, Replace, trace out/red light patches).
  • Read, understand, and utilize network diagrams, Signal flow diagrams, and detailed equipment specifications.
  • Provide weekly updates to varying internal and external contract stakeholders.
  • Learn new technology, and apply and share applicable knowledge to customers, stakeholders, and peers.
Your background will include.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience as a Deployment Engineer.
  • Active DOD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Knowledge and experience with Layer-0, and Layer-1, and familiarization with fiber optics to include ISP (patches and connectors) and OSP (fiber characterization and OTDR familiarity).
  • Experience with OTN, troubleshooting, technical writing, test plans, and EMOPs.
  • Experience with Ciena products preferred, or experience with Nokia/ALU, Infinera, or Cisco (Legacy 15454).
  • BS degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or similar technical field of study (Experience in related field in lieu of Degree (Min 5 years Exp in direct field).
  • Hands-on installation experience with Optical Transport products.
  • Familiarity with power installation (Certification a plus). Hands-on technical experience in telecommunications. Excellent communication and presentation skills. 
  • Able to travel to 75%, mostly in Virginia and Maryland, some OCONUS Travel is possible. Must have a current and Valid passport.
