A premier financial services firm seeks a Legal Assistant to provide efficient and effective corporate governance support to the General Counsel’s office in New York.  The compensation is $70K - $85K with a competitive benefits package and is bonus eligible. 

Primary Duties:

The Legal Assistant work closely with General Counsel’s Board Liaison and Executive Assistant in the execution of duties and coordination and administration of various Board of Directors and Committee meetings held throughout the year . In addition, the Legal Assistant will provide paralegal assistance to 1-2 attorneys and . Additional duties are as follows:

  • Assist in the preparation, review, quality assurance and maintenance of documentation, materials and records of Board of Directors meetings and Board Committee meetings (e.g., agendas, minutes, resolutions, org charts, charters, calendars, attendance records)

  • ​​Undertake appropriate pre-meeting and post-meeting steps to ensure implementation of action items and forward tracking of other deliverables​​​​​​

  • Assist with corporate entity governance and related matters

  • Maintain board member information (e.g., tenure, retirement age, residency, etc.)

  • Assist with the onboarding and retirement of Board

  • Work with colleagues across Finance, Investments, Technology, Human Resources, and Marketing in connection with the organization and coordination of Board and Board Committee meetings​​​​​​

  • Assist Board members with travel arrangements, lodging and meal planning as needed

  • Assist with legal billing and expense reports

  • Assist with the implementation and use of board portal

  • Additional responsibilities and project work as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience supporting attorneys, senior executive(s) and/or Board member(s). Board experience a plus.

  • Corporate governance experience preferred

  • Advanced computer knowledge working with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Adobe, Zoom and DocuSign); board portal experience a plus

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters and familiarity with governance documents (bylaws, charters, resolutions)

  • Ability to think critically while working in a fast-paced work environment and to demonstrate good judgment on when to seek guidance and/or escalate matters

  • Ability to learn the business and stakeholders to effectively manage and prioritize own work and to support the team​​​​​​

  • Team player and ability to successfully collaborate with colleagues across various departments​​​​​​

  • Exceptional detail orientation and organization skills, and the ability to handle tasks with a sense of urgency and follow up

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
