Description

A prestigious law firm is seeking an Associate, preferably in New York City, but open for remote work in DC, Philadelphia or California. Note that candidates outside of these areas may be considered on a fully remote basis. The compensation is $114K - $200K, which is dependent on graduation year and years of relevant experience.

Primary Duties:

The  Associate will be provide advice to a diverse array of employee benefit plan clients regarding administrative and operational issues; ERISA, tax and other regulatory compliance; fiduciary issues; investment issues; plan design and drafting; plan qualification; communications; general consultation; and attending client meetings. Additional duties include the following:​​​​

  • Handling benefit plan-related litigation, including contribution enforcement, withdrawal liability, alter ego cases, post-judgment enforcement, benefit claims and fiduciary breaches

  • Writing, speaking, analyzing and representing multi-employer benefit plans, i.e., plans offered by unions

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in a boutique law firm is desired or equivalent experience at the Department of Labor or Employee Benefit Security Administration 

  • An advanced degree in tax is a plus, but is not required

  • Must be a member of the New York bar or be able to gain admission within a short time

  • Ability to communicate effectively, as well as possess strong client service skills

  • Strong writing, speaking and analytical skills, and be a practical thinker

  • ​​​​​Recent experience representing multi-employer benefit plans, i.e., plans offered by unions is required
