A highly regarded insurance company is seeking an experienced Trial /Senior Trial Attorney to join their New York Staff Counsel operations in Elmsford, NY. This position is hybrid: two days in the office; three days remote (must have the ability to cover venues which include Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, etc.). The base salary is $120K for the Trial Attorney position and $140K for the Senior Trial Attorney position. There is wiggle room for the right candidate and each position is bonus eligible with a competitive benefits package.
Primary Duties
The Trial/Senior Trial Attorney will be responsible for the defense of primarily construction accident/ catastrophic cases from start to resolution. The position requires exceptional client communication skills, documented trial skills as well as the ability to report and respond to the carrier with insight and timeliness. Additional duties include:-
Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, letters, memoranda, reports, articles, etc. using the company’s legal case management software.

Direct and undertake discovery practice including depositions, expert selection and all other pre-trial preparations.

Communicate with, meet and regularly update the client and claims personnel regarding the status of pending matters. Communicate with opposing counsel, the courts and others as needed.

Research issues using Lexis and other computer/web-based data sources, law reporters and other library materials.

Develop litigation strategy for all assigned cases.

Provide analysis to claims in the form of legal opinions, recommendations and digests of recent developments in decisional and statutory law.

Control and direct clerical activity, in accordance with office protocol, necessary to support function of position.

Report to managing attorney concerning status of matters and provides other information as requested.

Try cases to conclusion before judges, juries and other triers of fact including ADR.

Travel to depositions, court appearances, claims and client meetings, and other events, as necessary. Travel represents approximately 20-25% of employee's time.

Engage in other activity as directed by the managing attorney including limited management responsibilities if appropriate.
Requirements:

At least 5 years of New York experience for the Trial Attorney position and 10+ years of experience for the Senior Trial Attorney position.

Must have demonstrated experience handling New York Labor Law litigation related to construction accident cases.

Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school required. Member in good standing of the New York State bar required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, or similar required. Legal case management software experience preferred.

Excellent client service, writing and oral communication skills required.
