Summary of Job

Under the direction of the Technology Manager (TM), the Systems Engineer III is responsible for planning, architecting, implementing, maintaining, and supporting both Strategic and Tactical hardware and software systems infrastructure for the JTA.  Manages and ensures the smooth operation of computers and servers in order to provide maximum performance and availability for all of JTA operations. Responsible for the oversight of backups, patching, imaging, responding to Tier 1, 2, and 3 alerts as appropriate, completing projects, and team coverage.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist the TM and Project Manager (PM), in managing projects, workloads of other Systems Engineer I and II to meet deadlines and have the ability to work without instruction.
  • Manage, architect, and implement daily backup jobs.
  • Work with and supervise vendors to resolve escalated issues.
  • Lend support and responds to Tier 1-3 issues as needed.
  • Manage, architect, and implement monitoring programs, makes adjustments to fit the business’ needs, review, and track escalated issues.
  • Manage, architect, and implement all system engineering aspects of following services; Active Directory, MS Exchange, Web Content Filtering, Anti-virus, Backup and archiving, File, Print, Public Record and Investigation Requests, Email Spam Filter, DNS, Website Certificates, Payroll, Storage, Citrix, SQL, Imaging, SharePoint, VMWare, Patching, and Websites.
  • Provides trending analysis reports on the infrastructure as a means to prevent issues and performs root cause analysis on infrastructure issues.
  • Advises Service Desk and users on appropriate action, follows standard procedures, and identifies and escalates situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Tracks, routes problems and requests, and documents resolutions.
  • Provides status to management periodically or as requested and performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Works with management to identify and specify complex business requirements and processes for diverse infrastructure platforms, computing environments, software, hardware, technologies and tools.
  • Participates in infrastructure reviews, primarily to determine if the infrastructure complies with internal standards or generally follows best practices for large-scale server configuration management.  
  • Leads efforts during projects’ planning phase to size project costs for the purposes of budget, resource planning, and SWOT analysis.
  • Supports the team during the development, testing and deployment phases.
  • Mentor and supports other IT staff in implementation of projects as needed.
  • Ensures all solutions are designed to perform efficiently, are scalable and re-usable.
  • Verifies that projects have been implemented according to best practices.
  • Assists project managers in planning the project, organizing, and developing mitigation strategies to address major project technical risks.
  • Interacts with the customer for deployment of software version updates and, where appropriate, codes promotion and production support.
  • Anticipates the release of new versions and patches from each software vendor and incorporates software version updates as a part of the Change Management procedures.
  • Researches new technologies and architect enterprise level solutions to business’ needs.
  • Performs mandatory storm/disaster job related functions that are essential to the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and/or the EOC.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong working knowledge of Citrix Xenapp, Windows Operating System, Exchange and Microsoft SQL Server, MS SharePoint and Terminal Services, PC issues and diagnosis of system problems, Basic internet protocols (HTTP/S, SMTP, POP & FTP), SCSI controllers and SCSI enclosures, RAID technologies and configurations, Performance Monitoring Software, Vmware, Nutanix, Rubrik, Active Directory
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and highly diverse environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and have the ability to prioritize work assignments.
  • Proficiency using a personal computer equipped with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Mandatory participation in On-call rotation
  • Ability to find solutions to challenges without supervision
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
Required Skills

Minimum Education & Experience

· Associates degree is the minimum required education for this role

o Preference given to Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems degrees or other related field.

o Preference given to advanced degrees beyond an Associates

o Preference will be given to industry certifications (eg MCSA, MCSE, AWS Solutions Architect, etc)

· Minimum of 5 years working in a Systems Engineer, Systems Admin or related role

Preferred Experience

· 5 years working with Active Directory, Exchange, and Upgrading Exchange in test and production environments

· 5 years Deployment of operating system patches or updates

· 5 years working with Virtual Environments, Tools, and Concepts

· 3 years working with Citrix Xenapp Product Line

· 3 years working with Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure

· 3 years Rubrik or other disk back up system

· 2 years Windows PowerShell experience preferred for supporting the environment.

Preferred Education/Certifications:

· Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)

· Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSE)

· CompTIA or A+ certified

· Datacenter Virtualization

· Nutanix or Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI) certified
