A division of the City of New York seeks and Outreach Coordinator on a long-term, temporary basis.

Primary Duties:

The Outreach Coordinator duties include the following:

  • Assist, advise, and advocate for veterans and members of the armed services and their families and survivors on concerns relating to their rights and benefits, including matters pertaining to educational training, military law, employment and reemployment, health, medical and rehabilitation services and facilities, and the provisions of laws relating to veterans’ rights and privileges
  • Assist with preparing of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs claims, maintain liaison with public and private agencies which provide benefits for veterans, make personal appearances before local veterans and civic organizations, serve as the point of contact for the Veteran Resource Center, and perform other duties as directed
  • Responsible for supporting outreach and promotion of the various programs and services offered by Community Affairs including VA disability claims, supportive housing services, and other services to help veterans and dependents navigate government and other resources available
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Incorporate both in-person events, as well as digital outreach, and include the administration, operations, and project management of outreach activities within their portfolio
  • Work directly with the community to promote veterans’ benefits
  • Identify community needs, connecting the community to appropriate resources, and tracking progress
  • Perform administrative responsibilities with field work i.e., interacting directly with the public
  • Solely responsible for manning office hours at NYC Veteran Resource Centers located within the five boroughs 10 hours per week 


  • Experience working with military or veterans
  • Knowledge of available military/veterans services
