Idea Recruitment has partnered with a public transit service provider in Jacksonville, FL in their search for a Senior Staff Accountant.

Under the general supervision of the Accounting Manager of Transit Operations, this position is responsible for complex accounting activities supporting the accurate and timely closing of the general ledger, which may include, but are not limited to: preparation and posting of journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed asset processing, lease/contract review, accrual entries, budget variance reviews, research and analysis of assigned large elements of revenue and expense and the related internal reporting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Ensure general ledger account balances are materially correct and in compliance with internal controls and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

· Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in general ledger accounts

· Perform detailed review of general ledger accounts and prepare joural entries, including analysis and reconciliation of balanance sheet accounts

· Prepare journal entries for various accounting functions

· Generate and compile project invoices and related documents for Grants and Project activity to be submitted for contract reimbursement to local, state and federal agencies.

· Utilize Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and procedures recommended by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) to analyze financial information

· Identify, recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting

· Assist with quarterly grants reconciliation and maintaining up to date tracking of grant expenditures and revenues

· Responds to questions and requests for information from internal and external customers

· Explains and interprets accounting policies, procedures, and regulations

· Assists with month end financial reporting and variance analysis

· Assists with annual budgeting and forecasting

· Coordination of accounting matters with other departments

COMPLIANCE:

· Responsible for completing all mandatory training classes.

· Responsible for reviewing & complying with all JTA policies & procedures.

REQUIRED / PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field. At least 4 years of experience in performing accounting, general ledger maintenance, performing work at a senior accountant or higher level. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be accepted as substitution.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

· Operating automated management and financial systems as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

· Understanding accounting concepts and directions and perform professional accounting related functions

· Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, community groups and the general public

· Evaluating and analyzing technical accounting transaction activities

· Preparing a variety of complex financial and administrative reports

· Planning and organizing work to meet changing priorities and deadlines

· Identifying and resolving general problems in a timely manner using sound judgment

· Responding to general inquiries and in effective oral and written communication

· Working independently

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Sit for prolonged periods.

Required Skills
