Idea Recruitment has partnered with the local Zoo, in Jacksonville, FL in their search for a full time Food Service Associate to enhance the guest experience and enforce the zoo's vision of inspiring discovery of the earth's wildlife through innovative experiences in a caring environment and to be aware of the safety of our guests and our staff.
 
This position requires a commitment to maintain high departmental standards for excellent customer service to the guests of the JZG.  This position is working in a fast-paced environment at either an indoor/outdoor restaurant, café and/or mobile location taking orders, cash handling, food preparation, stocking condiments, and keeping the work location clean.  The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is usually open from 9am to 5pm every day of the year except Christmas. The zoo is open as late as 11:00pm for some events.   A typical shift for a Food Service Associate is from 8:30am to 5pm but may be longer or adjusted when the JZG is open later for special events.
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Interact and greet each guest in a friendly and courteous.
  • Process Guest orders accurately through a point-of-sale system (POS register), count money, make change, and process credit card transactions.
  • Food preparation & assembly of food products including but not limited to beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish, gluten, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, and dairy products.
  • Assist in food preparation as requested by the Food & Beverage Manager or the Food Service Supervisor.  May include preparing boxed lunches, chopping, and slicing food items, cooking food items, working around deep fryers and other kitchen cooking equipment.
  • Keep the work area clean and safe, with cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Maintain food safety standard
  • Abide by standard operating policies and procedures of the department.
  • Perform all related duties as required. To include working in the kitchen preparing food, working as a cashier efficiently with positive guest service skills, working the dining room cleaning, sweeping, and stocking supplies, using a commercial grade dishwasher, concession stands or outside mobile units.
  • Provide customer service when problems arise and assist in finding solutions 
  • Work in outdoor settings during various weather conditions
  • Additional Personal Protective Equipment (face shields, goggles, refillable hand sanitizers, etc.) may be required.
  • Basic English language skills
 
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
 
  • High school diploma or its equivalent is preferred.  
  • Must possess good math skills and be able to operate a cash register and give correct change.  
  • Must successfully complete both the ServSafe Food Handlers Training Program and the ServSafe Alcohol (Responsible Vendor) Training Program prior to the first day. The Training Programs may be paid by the JZG. (We will not reimburse for a course.)
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:   
  • Must be available to work special events that may occur outside of regular work schedule, including evenings, weekends or holidays, as assigned. 
  • Have working knowledge of applicable food service equipment and cash registers.
 
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to sweep, mop, stoop, bend, kneel and lift overhead.
  • Operate a cash register 
  • Able to lift and carry 25 pounds without difficulty for short distances.
  • Ability to traverse zoo grounds and operate a motorized cart. 
  • Able to work outside to withstand heat, cold and rain
  • Standing for a period of up to 3 hours
