A global pharmaceutical company seeks a Senior Payroll Analyst for their office in Nutley, NJ.  The position is currently hybrid and will require you to be onsite two-days per work week.  The salary is $95K and bonus eligible. 

Primary Duties  
The Senior Payroll Analyst is responsible for processing the payroll for approximately 2,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada utilizing the Workday Payroll System. The Senior Payroll Analyst supports all aspects of multi-state payroll processing, for bi-weekly salaried and hourly employees, and is responsible for responding to inquiries from employees and internal departments related to Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking issues. Essential functions are as follows:
  • Process US and Canada bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly paid employees in accordance with Payroll schedule, using Workday Payroll System, based on department SOPs
  • Oversee and audit hourly time tracking submissions. Contact employees and managers as needed, to ensure time is submitted in accordance with deadlines
  • Troubleshoot (research and analyze) and resolve Workday Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking issues, questions, and discrepancies. Escalate, as needed, any issues to Senior Manager
  • Respond to inquiries from employees, internal departments (HR, Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Fleet, Sales IC) and outside vendors (Ceridian, PWC, Bristol, etc.) related to payroll processes and payments
  • Oversee administration of payroll taxes and garnishments, including ensuring SUI tax rates are processed in Workday and provided to Ceridian. Contact state and local tax agencies as needed, to research and resolve tax questions/issues. Work closely with Senior Manager on tax issues and interact extensively with Ceridian Tax Services client representative
  • Process wage and tax adjustments as instructed by Senior Manager
  • Assist with all Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking Workday configuration related testing, as needed
  • Prepare payroll reconciliations after each pay period, at quarter-end, and at year-end, to ensure taxes are accurate
  • Conduct bi-weekly orientation sessions for new hires explaining payroll specific tasks assigned to employees in Workday such as tax withholdings and banking elections
  • Assist with year-end payroll process including gathering and loading data for year-end adjustments for W-2s and T4s
  • Responsible for various Canada payroll related processing such as ROE’s
  • Assist with Payroll department projects as instructed by Senior Manager
  • Provide training and guidance to other members of the Payroll department as needed
  • May assist with other Payroll department activities such as responding to fraudulent unemployment claims, reviewing/distributing the Payroll mail, and working with the Benefits Team to ensure leave of absence processing is accurate
  • May assist with monthly expatriate payroll administration which includes coordination and preparation of payroll entries and communicating with third party provider
  • Review current department processes and make recommendations for ways to improve efficiencies
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of Workday payroll system experience
  • Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of overall payroll experience, supporting multi-states
  • Prior Workday Absence experience preferred
  • Prior Workday Time Tracking experience preferred
  • Prior experience researching issues on Workday Community / Resource Center strongly preferred
  • Prior Payroll tax experience strongly preferred, including interacting with third party tax providers such as Ceridian, UKG or ADP
  • Prior Canada payroll experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of HR and Payroll-related issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and detail oriented
  • Proficient Knowledge of Excel including VLOOKUP and pivot tables
  • ​​Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, sometimes with tight deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate with HR Team members on Benefits and HR issues
  • Ability and willingness to multi-task and change priorities on short notice
  • Proven demonstration of problem solving /analytical skills
  • Must be reliable, resourceful, and demonstrate ability to take initiative and solve problems
  • Willing to learn and develop
