A dynamic global law firm seeks an Attorney-Conflicts to join their team located in NYC. This is a  remote position but will be hybrid starting in January, 2021. The base salary is between $115K - $150K and bonus eligible. 

Primary Duties

The Attorney - Conflicts will review conflict check reports prepared by the conflicts team, escalate possible business conflicts and identify and advise on ethical conflicts under the New York Rules of Professional Conduct, which the firm applies globally to all sixteen offices across the firm.  Work directly with partners to clear conflicts, draft conflict waivers and prepare client engagement documentation as needed.  Work closely with other members of the Risk team including small group of conflicts attorneys and risk analysts.  Report to Assistant General Counsel (Conflicts). Additional duties include the following:
  • Review conflict reports prepared for matters worldwide, identify potential conflicts of interest issues under the New York rules and potential business conflict issues; provide detailed analysis and advice directly to partners
  • Escalate potential issues to the partners involved in the matter in order to obtain any necessary conflict waivers
  • Assist in drafting conflict waivers where requested and coordinate tracking waivers in firm systems
  • Review conflict reports prepared in connection with incoming laterals, identify potential conflicts of interest issues; provide detailed analysis and advice directly to partners and incoming laterals
  • Assist in drafting engagement letters and editing letters drafted by others
  • Answer queries from professional staff across the firm, including, for example, secretarial staff and Business Development professionals, concerning conflict checks and processes
  • Work on ad hoc projects that arise from time to time

  • U.S. trained lawyer with at least 3-5 years total experience in a highly regarded commercial law firm dealing with conflicts  Experience with analyzing and advising on U.S. conflicts rules is required
  • Requires a comprehensive knowledge of U.S. conflicts rules, preferably the New York Rules of Professional Conduct, and related guidance.  Must be able to work efficiently, give clear and commercial advice and understand the significance of matters in the wider context of the firm’s business
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills necessary.  Must possess a close attention to detail and be used to working to very high standards of accuracy and efficiency, but balanced with a practical, common sense approach. Must be able to draft complex information succinctly, thoroughly and in plain English
  • Able to manage a workload comprising of day to day queries as well as longer-term projects that may arise from time to time
  • Must be able to effectively liaise with all levels of both legal and professional staff to assist with the resolution of issues and be able to inspire confidence from senior people
  • Should be resourceful, possess initiative and be able to work autonomously with a high personal motivation, while also being an effective member of a global team
  • Must be a fast thinker and quick learner able to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.  Must be able to prioritize, multi task and show resilience, confidence and the ability to remain calm under pressure
