Idea Recruitment has partnered with a Manufacturing - Distribution client in Orange Park in their search for a Safety Director.

Within this role, the candidate will Plan, develop, coordinate and supervise safety, health and environmental protection functions for a multi-location industrial company with locations throughout the United States. Performs all functions and responsibilities in partnership with the company’s culture, corporate vision, ethics and code of conduct. Liaises with external parties such as government or insurance inspectors to facilitate evaluation of sites. Ensures there is no danger to the health or safety of workers or site visitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with field operations to ensure compliance with the project safety and environmental program.
  • Be involved with training and site-specific meeting requirements.
  • Conduct hazard analysis of work operations; complete required reports and notifications.
  • Assist in investigating incidents on site and developing required reports.
  • Conduct and participate in safety audits.
  • Coordinate safety training activities on an ongoing basis.
  • Attend branch safety meetings, progress meetings, and other required meetings.
  • Liaise with insurance partners.
  • Maintains knowledge of company values and strategic plan.
  • Provide administrative and technical direction and provide updates on all project(s) safety and health programs, procedures and policies.
  • Provide assistance to project management personnel to ensure compliance with all safety, accident and fire programs, procedures and policies.
  • Provide technical and administrative direction to on-site safety personnel when applicable.
  • Thoroughly investigate all accidents resulting in severe accidents or major property or equipment damage.
  • Represent company in all safety related hearings (OSHA, etc.) impacting projects for which incumbent is responsible.
  • Review all safety documentation/reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare safety related input for bid proposals.
  • Organize and implement safety programs for new projects including safety incentive programs.
  • Attend or submit reports to Company’s Executives. Assist in the development of safety budget and assures expenditures do not exceed the budget.
  • Formulate and initiate training programs for employees and supervisors based on core exposures and loss experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations pertaining to the specific trade or activity being managed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) Preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience as a Safety Manager.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable safety regulations.
  • Advanced training in management preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company regulations.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures essential.
  • Ability to investigate/analyze critical situations in a non-emotional manner is vital.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills essential.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain all records of occupational injuries and illnesses in accordance with the OSHA Record Keeping Requirements.
  • Provide all levels of management with the services and technical advice needed for proper administration of the Safety Program.
  • Develop technical guidance and interim programs to identify and remove physical hazards from company work sites.
  • Formulate, recommend and administer approved changes to the accident prevention program.
  • Prepare and distribute to all department heads regular reports on the status of safety.
  • Maintain an adequate accident report system, personally investigating serious accidents, and taking corrective action to eliminate accident cause.
  • Coordinate with project management personnel in the safety training of employees.
  • Conduct or coordinate inspections to observe unsafe conditions or work practices.
  • Insure there is full compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Recommend programs and activities that will develop and maintain incentives for, and motivation of, employees in safety.
  • Up to 50% Travel required.
Required Skills
