This is a unique opportunity for a detail-oriented and communicative professional to work at the intersection of science, policy, and public service. You will be a key player on a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to the sustainability of groundfish, halibut, and other pelagic species. Your work will directly support fishermen, scientists, and policymakers, ensuring that our fisheries are managed responsibly for generations to come.
Responsibilities
Permits Processing: Assist in reviewing permit applications, renewals and transfers. Incoming requests shall be tracked from the time they arrive to the time they are completed. Applications shall be reviewed and verified regarding completeness of submission and inclusion of supporting documentation. Applicants who have submitted incomplete requests shall be notified that they need to provide additional information. The contractor shall develop use cases for the permits database maintenance and improvements.
Constituent Services: Answer phone calls and emails to direct constituents to the regulations and requirements of the permit programs, and explain how to transfer, apply for, and renew permits/licenses. The contractor shall manage incoming calls, consult with Permit Leads if needed, and answer routine calls on catch data errors. The contractor shall assist fishermen in accessing their quota share and vessel accounts, which are akin to banking and investment accounts, and aid fishermen who encounter password problems. The contractor shall assist the public with questions concerning permits and quota share and vessel accounts, many of which can be answered by referral to websites.
Information Dissemination: Assist in the development and dissemination of information, including assisting in the production of text, tables, and graphics of internal and external analysis and outreach materials. The contractor shall assist in the distribution of such materials.
Recordkeeping: Track correspondence and maintain files, and document and catalog non-disclosure agreements for certain types of data requests, using established criteria.
Spreadsheet Analysis: Assist in simple “bookkeeping” type analysis that supports permit fee assessment or provides overviews of the permit systems.
Required qualifications and experienceBachelor’s degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university with a major directly related in the field of study as related to the requirements of the specific task order with emphasis in fisheries, oceanography, social science, natural science, mathematics, or hydrology.
One (1) year of experience in the related field or a combination of such totaling five (5) years combined education/experience.
