The Opportunity
A Fortune 500 telecommunications company in Houston, TX seeks a Permitting Specialist on a long-term, temporary basis for at least twelve months, possibly longer. The schedule is hybrid: Monday and Friday are WFH days; Tuesday through Thursday are in office. The hourly rate is from $25 - $30 an hour, plus benefits.Primary Duties
The Permitting Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring timely entitlement approvals to get external customers on air—on schedule and within budget. You'll be the go-to expert for navigating jurisdictional permitting and zoning processes, providing both internal and external stakeholders with clear, timely updates and solutions. Additional duties include the following:- Obtain permits, entitlements, and approvals for the installation of the company's facilities in public rights-of-way and on private towers.
- Ensure accurate project forecasting and track milestone completions.
- Review construction drawings to ensure compliance with local jurisdictional standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot issues, facilitate project progress, and meet key deadlines.
- Liaise with local government agencies and officials to ensure compliance with laws, ordinances, and permitting processes.
- Serve as an escalation point for resident complaints via the Network Operations Center.
- Provide zoning and permitting expertise during customer meetings when needed.
- Represent the company at local planning boards, public hearings, and city council meetings.
- Manage third-party vendors, including expediters, inspectors, and legal counsel, as required.
- Assist in researching and preparing permitting process overviews, including cost and timeline estimates for use in project bids.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Legal or JD background is a plus but not required.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in municipal planning, land use, or the wireless infrastructure industry.
- Public speaking and experience presenting to government bodies is preferred.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Flexible and adaptable to industry and regulatory changes.
