Title: Vice President, Risk, Quality Assurance
Location: Radnor, PA (on-site)
This is an advanced leadership position which works under minimal supervision and is responsible for monitoring the underwriting quality of loans which are currently or may be insured by Essent. Specific responsibilities are to assure the underwriting quality of both external and internal underwriting are in compliance with documented policies and underwriting guidelines published by Credit Policy. The incumbent will also manage external vendors and recommend the optimal outsourcing strategy, help formulate and implement strategic initiatives, work in conjunction with colleagues in Risk Management to ensure GSE guidelines, market trends/risks and audit findings are shared and incorporated, when necessary, into policies and underwriting guidelines. The VP, Quality Assurance, will interact directly with senior leaders, and as needed with the Board of Directors and external entities such as GSEs and rating agencies.
As a dynamic and resourceful professional, we will rely on you to perform the following duties:
Oversee the day-to-day management of the Quality Assurance Team. Directly manage the supervisors and reviewers to ensure the team is meeting performance expectations such as:- Timely and accurate reporting of review results within 2-3 months of policy issuance.
- Develop and periodically report on QA results to the Management Risk Committee.
- Productivity goals – timely re-underwriting of mortgage insurance commitment/certifications.
- Consistency in the review of loans and communication with internal and external clients.
- Create a Quality Assurance function within Essent. Participate in any GSE reviews in accordance with Mortgage Insurance requirements.
- Assist in creating and implementing value added services. Investigate fraud tools in the marketplace to improve performance and to be utilized both pre/post close.
- Participate in strategic and annual financial planning.
- Create tools to improve productivity and response time of reviews such as electronic file delivery and workflow. Identify and suggest opportunities to improve the Quality Insurance application system.
- Promote an appropriate risk-centric culture consistent with the Essent corporate mission.
- Create and promote practices to train, counsel, and develop employees.
- Promote employee satisfaction
- Assess staff talent and direct development efforts to enhance performance and strength for future growth opportunities
- Participate in client visits to assess quality underwriting practices and discuss initial or final review findings.
- Share underwriting best practices to assist underwriters in making prudent lending decisions and improve the manufacturing of mortgage loans.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings and projects as they relate to guidelines, policies or other topics as required.

- Develop strong interpersonal relationships throughout the organization to promote strong communication, superior delivery of services and goodwill.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in operations or business management preferred; advanced degree preferred.
- Ten plus (10+) years of experience in mortgage and/or mortgage insurance industries.
- Deep understanding of GSE underwriting guidelines and quality assurance / control protocols.
- Five (5) years or more of management/supervisory experience.
- Practical experience in quality assurance, underwriting, operations and risk.
- Proficient with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities with conflict deadlines.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork focus with ability to foster a team environment with direct reports.
- Advanced knowledge of the mortgage industry.
- Strong understanding of organizational measurement and controls.
- Strong underwriting foundation and knowledge of GSE requirements/guidelines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to various business partners and employees with diplomacy and tact.
- Ability to manage remote employees and travel regularly.
