@Orchard LLC is retained by a government consulting firm specializing in data and records management with a goal of assisting customers with strategic and transformative ways in handling information management and data architecture. Our Client is seeking an Accounting Team Lead with excellent analytical skills, that pays attention to detail, and has a thorough knowledge of GAAP reporting standards and accounting compliance to process accounting transactions in our accounting system. The Accounting Team Lead will help ensure the organization adheres to accurate and effective accounting policies and procedures. This person is responsible for maintaining the general ledger as part of the month-end closing process. They will also be responsible for invoicing, reviewing accounts payable, reviewing the semi-monthly payroll processing, and other tasks as assigned. This is a hybrid opportunity based in their Vienna, VA office.
As an Accounting Team Lead, your responsibilities will include:- Preparing month-end and year-end close and account reconciliations.
- Preparing month-end and quarterly reporting including AR, AP, and Cash Flow Forecast.
- Maintaining prepaid, accruals, and fixed asset ledgers and the corporate operational expense tracker.
- Investigating and resolving audit findings, accounting discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
- Preparing and submitting monthly client invoices.
- Reviewing and approving journal entries and Accounts Payable entries prepared by the Staff Accountant.
- Reviewing timesheets and approvals as part of the semi-monthly payroll process.
- Acting as backup for the semi-monthly payroll.
- Leading project setup, assignments, and project closeout in accounting system.
- Leading corporate tax planning and preparation, financial statement reviews, and other external and government audit engagements.
- Leading the completion of annual business license tax, 1099 forms, property tax forms and other state and local tax requirements as necessary.
- Leading the compiling financial information for monthly and quarterly submissions to external bankers and government agencies.
- Leading corporate insurance policies renewals and updates.
- Leading updates to accounting procedures and policy improvements.
Education and /or Skills and Experience Required:- US Citizenship is required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. (A Master’s degree or CPA may substitute up to 2 years of experience.)
- Must understand and be able to apply DCAA accounting and compliance standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Must understand FAR cost principles.
- Familiarity with various government invoicing and reporting portals (IPP, VCSS, Tungsten).
- Prior experience in a growth firm and taking systems and processes to the next level, highly desired.
- Background in financial analysis and reporting a plus.
- Must be able to work independently and prioritize effectively.
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel).
- Self-motivated and ambitious, adept at initiating tasks and projects independently.
- Extremely strong attention to detail; process and deadline oriented.
Preferred Skills/Experience:- CPA certification and/or MBA is a plus.
- Experience with Unanet is highly desirable.
- Experience with iSolved is highly desirable.
- Experience working for a small to mid-sized federal contractor is highly desirable.
