Santa Barbara Co, California – Vandenberg Space Force Base
Our client has an immediate need for an experienced Optical Engineer, to work as a Deployment Expert on-site at the Vandenberg Space Force Base, formerly Vandenberg AFB.
As the Optical Engineer you will.
- You will be responsible for on-site physical installation, implementation, and configuration of optical transport products from our client.
- Function as the local subject matter expert and related standards development and interpretation of customer requirements specifications to provide guidelines on customer’s modernization effort.
- Utilize your strong understanding of SONET, DWDM, ROADM (and other (n)OADM configurations) architecture and provisioning and implementation, coupled with an understanding of Carrier Ethernet architecture and provisioning and implementation.
- Follow implementation plans based on the results of testing and provide expert engineering support in the deployment of the proposed enhancements and modifications to include Layer-0, Layer-1, and Layer-2 processes and configurations.
- Demonstrate the ability to read/follow network diagrams, cabling guides, and signal flow diagrams, including, manual manipulation and installation of varying products from SFP/XFPs (Pluggable) and occasionally to shelves (Up to 75lbs).
- Manipulate fiber optic patches (Clean, Run, Replace patches).
- Provide weekly updates to varying internal and external contract stakeholders.
Your background will include.- An active DOD Secret clearance (Must have).
- At least 5 years of experience as an Optical Engineer
- Working knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, or relative vendor equipment.
- Expert knowledge working with Layer-0, and Layer-1 protocols.
- Working experience with fiber optics including, ISP (patches and connectors), and OSP (fiber characterization and OTDR).
- BS degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or a similar technical field of study.
- A diverse telecommunications background, including hands-on installation.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time to client locations.
- Current or Prior experience knowledge with Ciena Product Family a plus, alternative tools would be Nokia/ALU, Infinera, and Cisco (Legacy 15454).
