@Orchard LLC has been retained by an exceptional consulting firm focused in the areas of Mission Assurance, Cybersecurity, Intelligence & Analysis, and Critical Infrastructure Protection, for Federal and Commercial clients. Our client has been growing steadily over the last decade and offers its employees an environment where they can grow their careers and thrive while being well compensated and receiving excellent benefits.

We have been asked to assist our client in finding Senior and Mid-level Electrical Engineers familiar with electrical utility systems and electrical generation, preferably including working on military installations. This is a new 2-year engagement within a Federal Defense client that will allow teams-members to primarily work from home, with some visits to the government client in Arlington, VA, and ultimately some travel to installations, possibly CONUS and OCONUS. This project is just the starting point for your career with our client, who will ensure you have the opportunities and professional development necessary to build a long-term future.

As the Senior Electrical Engineer, you will:

Lead and conduct energy resiliency assessments on military facilities and utility infrastructure, overcurrent protection, relaying, and switching, including SCADA, transmission and distribution, energy monitoring and control systems, and alternative energy generation, reliability, and resiliency. Be responsible for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data and writing reports regarding observations and recommendations. Work within a small team environment and collaborate on group projects. Effectively communicate technical issues to the government customer and other team members both verbally and through written mediums/reports.

Your specific tasks will include:
  • Aggregate and analyze technical documents including technical drawings, Installation Energy Security Plans, Mission Assurance Assessments, Energy Resilience Readiness Exercises, Facility Related Control System (FRCS), and Utility System Assessments.
  • Prepare studies to determine the roadmap to ensure essential and critical facilities can function independently from commercially provided power for periods of 7-, 14-, and 30-days while maintaining compliance with standards and military mission requirements.
  • Collect and analyze data relating to energy sources and associated infrastructure to identify potential system deficiencies and vulnerabilities to the full spectrum of threats and hazards.
  • Conduct field surveys and study maps, graphs, diagrams, and other data to identify means of correcting utilities system problems and weaknesses.
  • Produce analysis results in writing to convey complex technical issues in a logical manner understandable to non-technical individuals.
  • Lead internal personnel, stakeholders, and clients in understanding and interpreting engineering data.
  • Provide technical input to proposals, articles, brochures, reports, and manuals. Participate in conferences, working groups, meetings, and other events, as needed.

Your background will include the following:
  • BS Electrical Engineering and/or MS Electrical Engineering from an ABET Accredited school.
  • Experience in the electrical grid, transmission, and distribution design and operation, preferably including
    • Experience with Substations, Switching Stations, and load analysis. Experience with Diesel Generators, Photovoltaics, and Battery Energy Storage Solutions.
    • Experience with DoD electrical grids and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) requirements.
    • Knowledge of LEED, IEEE, NERC, FERC, and NFPA 70.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Teams, and Office products with an emphasis on Excel
