Job Description

This position is a highly technical role, providing post-sales support for customer-specific networks. The Deployment Engineer will be required to develop and maintain expertise on the products deployed within the customers’ network and related platform certification processes.  This is a full-time position requiring strong knowledge and experience with Network Architecture and Transport Protocols. Must be willing to travel to client locations across the US, and possible overseas on occaision.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must have experience working with US Government/Federal agencies/customers.
  • Secret security clearance or above is required or the ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the provisioning, testing, and network integration of Ciena Deployment projects.
  • Responsible for the administration of deployment project documentation, including daily status reports, project closing documents, and engineering document updates.
  • Responsible for the collection and submission of network test records.
  • Perform provisioning and troubleshooting activities, and green-field network software upgrades.
  • Performance of installation and workmanship quality assessments.

Experience

  • Functional knowledge of Ciena products, with hands-on knowledge of one or more major Ciena product lines, such as Ciena 6500, Waveserver and CESD. 
  • Knowledge of layer 0 photonics, Layer 1 OTN, and layer 2/3 packet.
  • The ability to perform provisioning and troubleshooting activities, as well as network software upgrades.
  • The ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and debug system-level issues, to perform during live traffic maintenance window activities, and to provide mentoring and instruction to trainees and peers.
  • Proven ability to lead and direct others during deployment activities.
  • The ability to interpret project engineering documentation and test plans.
  • Be willing to travel as necessary to support clients and to possess a valid US driver’s license. 

Education

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science or related field/discipline or equivalent work experience.
