Western Technologies Inc. a leader in consulting engineering services throughout the southwestern United States, has an opportunity for an Environmental Scientist II with our team in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As an Environmental Scientist II you will perform inspections, field surveys, air monitoring, and remediation oversight involving chemical and fuel contaminants, asbestos, lead-based paint, microbial contamination, and workplace exposures.  You will work under the general direction of technical experts, principals and project managers with limited to moderate supervision. The Environmental Scientist II follows standard operating procedures to ensure the effective implementation of field and research tasks, and compliance with data quality objectives. You are expected to apply your experience in the application of scientific principles, theories, practices and company standards. You will work individually on small to moderate-sized projects and collaborate as part of a team on more complex, high profile assignments. You will interact with principals and project managers, discuss implementation and approach, and carry out specified assignments of advanced technical complexity.

 

Functions and Duties:

 

Follows standard operating procedures to accomplish specific and limited portions of scientific assignments.

  Assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests, aerial photographs, maps, and other sources to evaluate impacts on projects.

  Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.

 

Performs other office, laboratory or field studies and duties that may be assigned by more senior level professional staff or the Department Manager.

 

Well developed technical writing skills, ability to effectively communicate in multimedia formats, capability with Microsoft office suite of programs.

 Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection during field assignments.

 

 May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.

             May act as group leader on a small field team directing staff to sample, test, and collect data and/or document on-site activities. You will have first-line responsibility for the overall quality of the collected data.

 

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, geology, environmental science or another physical science.

EPA AHERA certifications as Inspector and/or Contractor/Supervisor

Current EPA Lead Paint Inspector or Risk Assessor license preferred.

Current OSHA Hazardous Waste Site Operations 40-hour training.

2 to 5 years of directly related work experience.
