Radiologic Technologist (MRI, CT, RT)

SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Center Manager, performs MRI, CT, and X-ray procedures with minimal supervision of technical detail; performs a variety of technical and computer procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in a prescribed examination for imaging diagnosis; assumes responsibility for designated procedures or assignments; follows prescribed protocol for any given procedure.  Works within the guidelines established by the management philosophy of DMRIC and America’s ER.

JOB DUTIES

  • Responsible for quality and efficient production of CT/MRI/X-ray exams.​​​​​Observes and enforces MRI/CT safety precautions as stated in Siemens and/or GE manual and in accordance with company policy and procedure. (See Policy Procedure Manual)
  • Performs, with minimal supervision, MR/CT procedures requiring an understanding of anatomy, physiology and both CT and magnetic resonance factors so that selection and modification of technical factors produce optimum diagnostic results.
  • Always demonstrates concern for patient’s comfort, both physical and psychological needs; consistently practicing good communication and customer service. Explains procedures to patient thoroughly.
  • Respects and maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to company HIPAA policy.
  • Reviews orders, instructions, and clinical indicators prior to each procedure, seeking clarification, as needed.  Documents clinical information for interpreting Radiologist and pertinent findings as necessary.
  • Evaluates patient’s condition and is trained in basic emergency support measures.
  • Minimizes patient waiting time.  If an exam runs over and causes another patient to wait Technologist is to notify the front desk with an approximate time they will finish.  Front desk will notify any patient who is waiting and has gone past their exam time of the situation.
  • Starts intravenous lines and administers contrast media in accordance with company policy and procedure.
  • Familiar with the basic principals of magnetic resonance imaging and computerized tomography, including physics and proficient at proper selection of all appropriate technical factors and scan parameters to achieve the highest quality sequences.
  • Completes all computer-related reconstructions and reformatting as required in a reasonable time following each study.  Archives computer data of examination.  Provide patients with Imaging records when requested whether same day or in the future.
  • Produces and reviews images for optimum image quality as established by the interpreting physician.  Notifies Director of Radiology of any changes to protocols requested by interpreting physician.
  • Completes accurate documentation of patient information and exam for the patient’s chart and billing. Obtains old imaging studies as requested by interpreting physician
  • Reports and documents equipment malfunction to Director of Radiology.  Places service calls as directed by Director of Radiology.  Works closely with service personnel from all companies in breakdown and repair situations.
  • Adheres to department operational policies and procedures, as well as radiation safety regulations/guidelines. 
  • Maintains imaging equipment, examination room and work areas in a clean, orderly and well-stocked condition.
  • Performs quality control procedures, as directed.  Participates in Quality Control Reviews as scheduled by Director of Radiology.  Collects and organizes exams and reports for peer review.  Contacts patients for information for appropriate criteria policy.
  • Performs related duties and clerical duties, as directed.  May be delegated specific areas of responsibility in performance of routine procedures or specific responsibility in quality assurance program.
  • Participates in basic educational programs within the department if offered.  Maintains technical knowledge, at appropriate level, through ongoing continuing education.
  • Maintains a current American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Texas Medical Board License and Continuing Education Credits as required by the TMB, IAC, and or the companies accrediting body.
  • Cross-train in other modalities as directed.  Assists in basic technologist training within the department, as directed.  Able to work any modality assigned to the schedule.
  • Must be able to work scheduled hours and maintain acceptable attendance level and follow policies and procedures of the company.
  • Assists others in the company, as directed, promoting cooperation and team approach.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies.  Notify Director of Radiology/Office Manager of any supplies needed in appropriate time for ordering.
  • Responsible for review of next day’s charts and appointments, as delegated by Director/Manager, communicate any issues or problems to appropriate staff for resolution before the patient’s appointment.  
  • Other duties as delegated by Management.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • ARRT registered. Advanced level in CT or MRI preferred but not required, or ARDMS or CT registered.  Documentation to support advanced training if no advanced level certificate.
  • Knowledge of work processing, spreadsheet, and database management programs preferred.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail, discretion and use of good judgment.
  • Ability to work independently, takes initiative, and is self-motivated.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Stands, walks, and sits intermittently throughout the day.
  • Some bending, stooping and lifting required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Works in a clean, well-lighted, comfortable environment.  Due to the nature of radiology equipment work area is often air-conditioned year around. Employees should have a lab coat or appropriate attire to keep comfortable.
