Talent Orchard, LLC has been contracted by a top defense firm in their search for a Database Architect professional for opportunities in Norfolk, VA or Herndon, VA 

Responsibilities
- Analysis and design of the Unified Data Platform, including data models for various business and operational requirements.

- Implement and administer Microsoft SQL Server databases within a multi-tiered environment.

- Adding or modifying system/user permissions to databases or database servers.

- Perform capacity planning, cluster set up, performance tuning and monitoring.

- Troubleshoot SQL DB performance issues, Disk/Memory/CPU utilization and suggest resolutions.

- Analyze processing issues and data anomalies and identifying solutions.

- Work with infrastructure staff to ensure that needed system resources are allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimal performance.

- Troubleshoot slow running queries and find optimal indexes and explain plan for slow/heavy queries.

- Schedule and perform regular SQL DB maintenance operations according to workload pattern and usage of the SQL DB.

- Configure and maintain Microsoft SQL DB alerts for various system usage thresholds.

- Perform requested changes, updates and modifications to database structure and data.

- Perform database patches and upgrades without downtime.

- Implementing solutions for Microsoft SQL database backup and recovery infrastructure.

- Monitor/maintain/upgrade Microsoft SQL database and assist application team with performance tuning initiatives and builds.

- Ensure proactive engagement in Incident Management process, working with cross-functional teams to minimize the impact of database outages.

Qualifications
- US citizen - Secret clearance or ability to hold a Secret clearance. - BS 16-18, MS 14+, PhD 10+ - At least 10 years’ of enterprise data architecture experience

- At least 7 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server

- At least 5 years of public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP), ETL tools, and metadata repositories

- At least 3 years working with high-availability systems

- 3+ years of experience working with automated build and continuous integration systems

- 10+ years of experience with Unix or Linux systems

- 3+ years of experience working with automated build and continuous integration systems

- 3+ years Power BI expertise

- Experience with SQL performance tuning.

- Experience with Postgresql and MongoDB is a plus

- Ability to design, install, configure, and secure Microsoft SQL Server 2016 in an Always On Clustered Mode.

- Strong technical knowledge of data integration tools, data modeling tools, metadata tools, and database design. ETL processes, BI analytics and development strategies.

- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Stack (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS and Power BI)

- At least 5 years of experience with Relational such as Postgres, MySQL and NoSQL Technologies such as or MongoDB and data-warehousing products such as Snowflake or Redshift
