Official Title: Child Development Specialist

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Starting rate: $18 - $20.00/Hour DOE + BENEFITS (see below for full details)

Start Date: Immediately

Primary Duties: Provide child development training, technical assistance and guidance to community residents with children 0-5. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate play and learn activities, model positive adult/child interaction, and promote family engagement.

Other Essential Duties:

  • Partners with community organization leadership, local stakeholders, Early Childhood leadership, local faith-based institutions, medical clinics and WIC centers to identify the needs of caregivers with children 0-5 to develop and integrate relevant programs and services that focus on trauma and resilience.
  • Conducts developmental screenings with caregivers for children 0-5 years of age such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ and ASQ-SE) and reviews them with caregivers to create ongoing strategies for additional support.
  • Understands the challenges facing children with developmental disabilities and their families and can make appropriate referrals and provide ongoing support.
  • Develops developmentally-appropriate activities for children who are experiencing trauma.
  • Interacts with parents and families individually or in a group setting.
  • Develops and facilitates caregiver/child (day, evening, and weekend) classes on specific child development topics i.e. developmental milestones, behavior modification, socialization, etc.
  • Develops parent child attachment and bonding activities.
  • Provides expertise and support in developing high quality childhood educational environments, materials and practices.
  • Coordinates efforts to link staff and families with appropriate community resources to support early childhood development particularly families experiencing high levels of toxic stress as a result of multiple traumas.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education preferred, or related field from four-year college or university and at least 24 college credits in Child Development.
  • Program development experience in the areas of curriculum, training, compliance, and supervision preferred.
  • One year of teaching or supervising in a child development or social services program.
  • Experience working with parents and children ages 0-5 preferred.
  • Knowledge of parent-child attachment theory; knowledge regarding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), toxic stress, and how trauma impacts child development; knowledge about resiliency interventions preferred.
  • Experience and ability to work with adult learners and diverse client populations. Familiarity with Family Engagement Programs.
  • Familiarity with Family Engagement Programs
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, client database software, and Internet search engines.
  • Must be able to work weekends and evenings to accommodate for community resident availability.
  • Must have the ability to nurture respectful relationship with clients and children.
  • Must successfully pass the Department of Justice (DOJ) criminal background check prior to first day of employment.
  • Must be CPR/First-Aid Certified or become certified within the first three months of employment.
  • TB test clearance at start of employment and to be renewed every two years.
  • Valid CA Driver’s license and insurance. Must have use of a motor vehicle
