Medical Records Technician

Job Description:

The Medical Records Technician is responsible for the overall document management of a patient’s medical record.

Essential job functions:

  • Processes requests and authorizations for release of medical information.
  • Reviews all documentation for completeness and routes incomplete documents to the appropriate provider for correction prior to placing/scanning in the medical records.
  • Provides prompt customer service for walk in and phone call medical records requests.
  • Records documentation of patient status change including patient terminations and warnings.
  • Schedules third party chart audits and provides auditor feedback to providers for appropriate correction of any standards that have not been met.
  • Scans/indexes individual documents into electronic health record (including but not limited to pathology reports, labs, medication lists, and correspondence).
  • Processes subpoena or court ordered requests for information in accordance with the law.
  • Sorts and distributes incoming faxes to appropriate medical staff for review.
  • Facilitates death certificate processing and physician sign off.

High School graduate (or GED) required.

Bilingual – English and Spanish required.

Medical Records experience preferred.
