Job Description: Senior Revenue Accountant (Royalties)
Job Purpose: Analyze and monitor royalty revenues, licensee contract management, and royalty revenue reporting.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review royalty contracts and determine appropriate revenue recognition methodology
- Track, analyze, and reconcile quarterly royalty reports based on contractual terms; review and analyze royalty revenues to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Summarize revenues that should be billed monthly/quarterly
- Work directly with the Accounts Receivable and Credit & Collection teams to Monitor accounts with past due balances
- Monitor and analyze balance sheet accounts related to royalties such as deferred revenue, accrued royalties.
- Assist the general accounting team with analysis of transactions pertaining to commissions, company royalty, profit participation expenses to ensure that expense recognition matches the revenue recognition
- Maintain adequate accounting records and analyses that support financial decision-making
- Perform monthly analysis of royalty revenues and budget variance. Work with various teams to investigate variances and analyze trends
- Work with the brand teams and licensees on estimate overages and subsequently true-up to actuals based on royalty reports.
- Coordinate with billing
- Monitor licensee reporting and compliance to determine any operational issues or any potential breach of contract.
- Prepare other external reports, as necessary
- Assist with the annual audit of the financial statements
Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
- Experience with royalty/license revenue accounting preferred
- Ability to learn new software and implement changes in the accounting system
- Ability to perform root/cause analysis and propose solutions
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks with strong orientation for details and deadlines
- Ability to identify variances or unusual trends that will require further investigation
- Confident verbal and written communicator with experience communicating with people at all levels of the organization
- Proven experience working independently with limited supervision
