Summary/Objective
The Simulator Technician position applies advanced knowledge and experience to solve unusually complex or system problems; those that typically are not able to be solved solely by reference to maintenance manuals or similar documents. At this level, the incumbent has demonstrated the ability to solve a variety of complex simulator and or aircraft system problems.

Essential Functions

  • Qualified, trained, and knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of the C-130J Maintenance Aircrew Training System (MATS) and peripheral equipment.

  • Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems, those typically solved by properly interpreting maintenance manuals or similar documents

  • Supports hardware system modifications and software programs as directed to stay current with C-130J aircraft configuration and to improve simulator operability.

  • Maintains required documentation of maintenance activities. 

  • Assist students and instructors in the operation of the training devices to include Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) classified activities (e.g. set up, power-on/off, daily operational readiness testing, initialization, and other assistance as required).

  • Interprets and works with computer systems utilizing various and multiple operating systems.

  • Diagnoses malfunctions of computers and associated equipment and performs operability/readiness tests and repair.  

  • Performs systems interface/fault isolation.  

  • Applies fundamental troubleshooting procedures in the maintenance of interfaces and peripheral equipment used with computers.  

  • Interprets mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic schematics and drawings and makes simplified versions.  

  • Ships, receives, stores, and issues equipment, parts, or supplies, and maintains inventory.

  • Utilize program Electronic Data Management System (EDMS) to support maintenance activities, monitor inventory levels, facilitate repairs, document transactions, and record calibration requirements.

  • Coordinates with local site management to ensure training requirements are supported.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Competencies
Required skills and abilities to effectively perform this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex word and technical documents/diagrams in English.  

  • Must possess advanced skills necessary to diagnose and isolate malfunctions in electronic systems; align, adjust and calibrate installed training devices; interpret mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic schematics and prepare simplified versions.

  • Must be able to perform routine preventive maintenance using maintenance requirement cards and instructional manuals; perform daily system readiness test, pre-operational and post-operational checkouts.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma and eleven (11) years’ experience or, Associate degree and seven (7) years’ experience or, Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years’ experience.  Experience with Flight Safety International VITAL visual systems, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair with the C-130J Weapon System Trainer (WST), with C-130J Loadmaster Part Task Trainer (LMPTT) and Security + Certification is desired.

Work Environment, Programs, and Tools
This position operates in a simulator bay environment. This role routinely uses tools and other equipment, requiring adherence to safety policies and procedures. This position may be required to lift at least 40 pounds overhead, walk and or climb stairs and ladders into a simulator or airplane cockpit. This position is also required to stoop, bend, and crawl on top or under the device. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position will be at Quonset Point ANGB, RI and will require adherence to the Government site hours of operation. This position is a full-time hourly position, expected to work 40 hours a week. May require evening/weekend work and work outside of the Government site hours of operations when needed to support Program needs when approved. Must be willing to work any shift or day of the week as required.

Security Clearance
Must be eligible for DoD Personnel Security Clearance. Must be a US Person, as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)/Technical Assistance Agreement (TAA), eligible to receive and handle controlled classified & unclassified information
