(Emergency Management)

MAJOR FUNCTION

Assist Emergency Management staff with support for recovery and mitigation programs.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Assist Emergency Management staff in ongoing recovery and mitigation programs related to Hurricane Irma.  Assist in the implementation of the Hurricane Irma After-Action Report & Improvement Plan. 

Create meeting agendas, sign-in sheets, presentations, reports, and rosters utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Develop/compile documentation including sign-in sheets, meeting minutes, agendas, etc.

Coordinate with Hazard Mitigation Grant Program applicants to track mitigation project application status, ensure deadlines are met, etc.

Assist with data entry in Emergency Management software systems.

Respond to phone calls and email inquiries from city, county, state and federal staff or the public. 

Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of emergency management recovery and mitigation principles.

Ability to use personal computers, with knowledge of basic word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and other related software.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, city, state and county officials, and the public.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Current enrollment at an accredited four (4) year college or university with coursework in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Urban Planning, or a related field.

Must be 18 years of age by hire date.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of employment, and pass a background screening.

Possess the following National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications:

  1. ICS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System
  2. IS-700: National Incident Management System, An Introduction
  3. IS-800: National Response Framework, an Introduction

No substitution is allowed as applicants must meet the bona fide student requirement standard.

SPECIAL PREFERENCES

Completion of FEMA Independent Study Courses related to recovery and mitigation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.

Location:  Winter Haven, FL
Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday
40 hour Work Schedule 

Rate of Pay:  $10.00 per hour
