ABOUT WHEELER BIO

We are proud to be recognized by Newsweek as one of America’s Greatest Startup Workplaces 2026. This recognition reflects the strength of our team, our continued growth, and our commitment to our values: Teamwork, Accountability, Integrity, Transparency, and Excellence.

THE ROLE

As Director of Business Development, you will deliver new business for Wheeler Bio. You will be the primary point of contact for our prospects and clients, combining a deep understanding of our services with your industry network to build relationships that fuel our growth today and into the future.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Build the pipeline

▪      Identify and qualify new clients using clinical trial databases, financing news, licensing deals, conferences, and your own network.

▪      Prioritize accounts by program stage, funding, modality fit, and timing of manufacturing decisions.

▪      Develop and execute territory sales strategies aligned with Wheeler’s strategic priorities and marketing opportunities.

Engage clients

▪      Lead discovery with CMC, technical operations, quality, procurement, and executive stakeholders to understand client program needs and decision criteria.

▪      Tailor your message to each audience: technical proof for CMC leaders, commercial clarity and risk terms for procurement.

▪      Partner with commercial team members and technical subject matter experts on targeting, technical deep dives, site visits, and audits.

Close the deal

▪      Orchestrate and own client proposals in collaboration with Business Operations to deliver accurate scope, pricing, and timelines.

▪      Negotiate commercial terms, including MSAs, SOWs, NDAs, MTAs, capacity reservations, and supply agreements, with support from Legal and the CCO.

▪      Close new business to achieve or exceed annual bookings targets.

Advancing Client Relationships

▪      Guide new clients from program award through onboarding and handover to the Operations project management teams.

▪      Introduce new and existing clients to additional Wheeler services.

▪      Track and report key sales metrics, adjusting strategy based on the data.

▪      Evangelize Wheeler Bio’s capabilities at tradeshows, roadshows, conferences, and summits.

WHAT YOU BRING

▪      Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Life Sciences or Engineering. A master’s degree or MBA is a plus.

▪      5+ years of CDMO sales experience in large molecule drug substance or drug product.

▪      A proven track record of achieving year over year territory growth goals driven by new account and new program acquisition.

▪      An established network of partner relationships across the industry.

▪      Strong understanding of clinical development phases, large molecule process development and manufacturing (including late phase requirements), and GMP and regulatory requirements.

▪      Advanced CRM proficiency (Salesforce) combined with modern digital content strategies to build targeted outbound campaigns, nurture partner relationships, and scale the sales pipeline.

HOW YOU WORK

▪      You build high-trust, consultative relationships with biotech executives, navigating complex program challenges and aligning technical realities with strict clinical timelines.

▪      You keep stakeholders engaged across 12+ month CDMO sales cycles, adapting your strategy to client feedback, funding landscapes, and shifting market conditions.

▪      You use competitive landscape and market trend analysis to shape territory strategy and position Wheeler’s high-science CDMO services for multi-year value for Wheeler and its partners.

▪      You serve as the bridge between clients and internal leadership, advocating for the resources, pricing, and custom program scopes that win business.

▪      You drive remote territory growth while bringing together Business Operations, Finance, Legal, and technical SMEs to close complex deals.

▪      You achieve or exceed bookings and revenue targets through disciplined pipeline management, continuous refinement of your sales tactics, and an aggressive focus on measurable growth.
