The Vice President of Operations & Strategic Initiatives is a senior operational leadership position responsible for supporting the Chief Operating Officer in the execution of enterprise priorities, development of new programs and service lines, management of cross-functional initiatives, and oversight of select corporate administrative functions.  This position will operate in a capacity similar to a Chief of Staff to the COO, serving as a trusted operational partner who helps translate organizational strategy into actionable workplans, coordinates initiatives across departments, removes barriers to execution, and ensures accountability for key deliverables.

Unlike a traditional VP of Operations focused primarily on direct management of regional or field operations, this position will have a broad enterprise mandate. The VP will work across clinical operations, corporate services, finance, compliance, technology, credentialing, payer initiatives, human resources, and other departments to advance strategic and operational priorities.

The position will also oversee designated administrative functions, including credentialing operations and coordination with the organization's insurance broker, while providing project leadership for new programs, partnerships, service lines, and operational infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Operations & Chief of Staff Support

  • Serve as a strategic and operational partner to the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Assist the COO in managing enterprise priorities, strategic initiatives, and operational commitments.
  • Translate executive-level priorities into structured project plans, timelines, deliverables, and accountability measures.
  • Coordinate activities involving multiple departments and ensure appropriate communication between operational, clinical, financial, compliance, and administrative teams.
  • Prepare executive summaries, dashboards, project updates, decision documents, and other materials for senior leadership.
  • Track key commitments and action items resulting from executive and operational meetings.

  • Represent the COO in designated internal meetings and initiatives when appropriate.
  • Help create greater organizational structure, standardization, communication, and accountability as the organization continues to scale.

Strategic Projects & Project Management

  • Lead or coordinate high-priority projects assigned by the COO from concept through implementation.
  • Establish project scope, objectives, ownership, milestones, timelines, dependencies, and success measures.
  • Develop project charters, implementation plans, dashboards, and executive reporting tools.
  • Coordinate cross-functional project teams and maintain accountability for agreed-upon deliverables.
  • Identify project risks and escalate issues that may affect timelines, financial performance, compliance, or operational outcomes.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews to determine whether initiatives achieved expected operational and financial results.
  • Establish repeatable project-management processes that can be used across the organization.

New Service Line & Program Development

Partner with the COO and executive leadership to evaluate, design, launch, and scale new service lines and operational programs.

Responsibilities may include:

Credentialing & Provider Administrative Operations

Provide executive oversight of the organization's credentialing and provider administrative infrastructure.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee credentialing and recredentialing processes for physicians and advanced practice providers.
  • Monitor credentialing timelines and identify barriers that could delay provider start dates or revenue generation.

  • Ensure credentialing processes support organizational growth and provider deployment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and standardize credentialing workflows across markets and business entities.

Insurance & Risk Administration

Serve as the organization's primary operational liaison with its insurance broker for designated corporate and professional insurance programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate insurance requirements associated with new programs, service lines, contracts, facilities, or geographic expansion.
  • Ensure appropriate leadership is notified of material insurance or risk-management issues.
  • Maintain organized documentation related to insurance programs, renewals, policies, and broker communications.

The VP will coordinate these activities but will not replace the responsibilities of Legal, Compliance, Finance, or clinical risk-management functions.

Operational Infrastructure & Standardization

  • Ability to work across departments without relying solely on direct reporting authority.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-support capabilities.

Preferred

  • Experience within a physician practice, MSO, hospitalist organization, post-acute organization, healthcare management company, or other multi-site healthcare organization.
