Position Summary
The Design Engineer is responsible for the design and analysis of outside plant (OSP) facilities and networks, including detailed review of high-level designs and development of low-level designs for feeder and distribution facilities supporting major fiber build projects and routine activities. This role leverages IQGeo and OSP planning expertise to produce detailed, constructible designs, oversees engineering vendors, and manages job costing and expenditure tracking to keep costs within authorized levels. The ideal candidate evaluates multiple factors to develop creative, practical solutions, sets their own priorities against project deadlines, and uses sound discretion to complete assignments.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and analyze OSP facilities and networks, including feeder and distribution facilities, for major fiber build projects and routine activities.
• Perform detailed review of High-Level Designs (HLD) and develop Low-Level Designs (LLD) for feeder and distribution facilities.
• Produce detailed OSP designs in IQGeo to support major fiber build projects.
• Plan OSP facilities in alignment with project requirements, build standards, and maintenance considerations.
• Oversee engineering vendors to ensure design deliverables meet quality, accuracy, and schedule requirements.
• Conduct job costing activities and monitor expenditures to ensure incurred costs remain within authorized levels.
• Investigate cost overruns and develop supplemental documentation as required.
• Coordinate construction budgets and support project management activities as assigned.
• Support right-of-way (ROW) functions as assigned.
• Evaluate multiple factors to develop creative, practical solutions to design and project challenges.
• Leverage AI-enabled tools and technology to improve design efficiency, reporting, cost analysis, and decision-making.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience in OSP design and planning for feeder and distribution facilities on major fiber build projects.
• Hands-on proficiency with IQGeo for OSP design.
• Experience overseeing engineering vendors and reviewing design deliverables.
• Understanding of outside plant build, installation, and maintenance practices.
• Experience with job costing and monitoring project expenditures against authorized levels.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate multiple factors and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Ability to work independently, set own priorities, and use discretion to meet project and work deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to use AI-assisted tools and technology to improve productivity, analysis, and decision-making.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience coordinating construction budgets and supporting project management activities.
• Right-of-way (ROW) coordination experience.
