Position Summary:

 

We are working with a food-tech company that wants to empower their customers to eat healthy while helping to improve the sustainability of their food systems. The Plant Manager will oversee all functions including food prep, cooking, plating, warehousing, and facilities management in their new East Coast plant.

Our client delivers delicious, organic, plant-forward meals, juices, and snacks to customers on the West Coast at the intersection of convenience, health, and sustainability. This is a hands-on opportunity for an individual who enjoys getting in the trenches with their team, understands challenges, and identifies opportunities. This individual will also collaborate with senior leadership to build our plant infrastructure from the ground up.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

·        Develop a sustainable budget, OKRs, and strategic plan for initiatives, including the setting of meaningful metrics (COGS drivers, efficiency, waste, etc.) for reporting and meeting operational and financial goals

·        Define, develop, and measure operational metrics and KPIs; build a data-driven culture of high performance, accountability, quality, and food/workplace safety in operations

·        Identify and implement best practices and follow lean manufacturing principles to identify opportunities to improve overall efficiency and quality

·        Interview and develop trusted long-term vendor relationships that meet the needs of the organization and the plant

·        Partner with HR to recruit and train new team members with a focus on retention

·        Train and develop culinary, production, and warehousing staff including managers, supervisors, and employees on full-cycle production, warehousing, and handoff functions and processes

·        Work in collaboration with HR to manage timely performance reviews, effectively resolve performance issues, and develop employee recognition programs

·        Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Director to develop proper training, compliance, and enforcement of all company policies including food safety, GMPs, SOPs, SSOPs, HACCP, and all local, state, and federal laws

·        Ensure compliance with company policies, as well as all Federal, State, and Local Employment laws and OSHA regulations

 

Required Skills/Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Food Science, or Management preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years in food manufacturing operations; experience with high volume meal-kit delivery production preferred
  • At least 7+ years of management and development experience
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to provide support, communication, direction, and real-time feedback to direct reports
  • Great understanding of food handling procedures and regulations and a current ServSafe certification
  • Ability to set, work towards, and achieve aggressive COGS driver and KPI goals
  • Experience owning quality, efficiency, and scheduling a workforce
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles including 5-S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and Root Cause Analysis
  • Tech savviness; comfort with data analysis and proficiency in Excel / Google Sheets
  • Working knowledge of relevant Employment Law and OSHA/HACCP/GMP/SSOP/FDA/3rd party GSF/Food Safety
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
