HG Law LLP is seeking a part-qualified or just qualified European Patent Attorney with a mechanical engineering (or other engineering) background to join our London team. This role for someone who's rolled their sleeves up, metaphorically and literally too. We want someone who's genuinely curious about how things are built. Ideally, you have at some point taken something apart and (mostly) put it back together again. We are looking for someone who is genuinely curious about how things are built and who enjoys working with inventors to protect innovative ideas.
Applicants should have the ability to commute regularly to the London office.
Responsibilities:

Draft and prosecute UK and European patent applications across a broad range of mechanical and engineering technologies.
Work closely with inventors, engineers, internal counsel and clients to understand inventions and develop patent strategies.
Advise clients on patentability, infringement, and portfolio strategy.
Collaborate with colleagues to maintain high standards of technical accuracy and drafting quality.

 
Job Qualifications

Part-qualified to qualified UK and/or European Patent Attorney. Candidates still working toward qualification are encouraged to apply.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; other engineering disciplines will also be considered.
Strong patent drafting and prosecution experience required.
Demonstrated interest in mechanical technologies and how things work in practical applications.
Strong academic credentials.
Strong technical writing skills with the ability to draft clear, concise, and accurate patent applications.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Job Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution as a Patent Agent or Patent Attorney. 
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in electrical engineering required; Advanced degree and/or industry experience in electrical engineering preferred.
Substantial patent drafting and prosecution experience for semiconductor technologies required.
Must be a registered patent agent before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Patent Attorney candidates must be admitted to the NY state bar
Strong academic credentials. 
Strong technical writing skills with the ability to draft clear, concise, and accurate patent applications.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

      <description><![CDATA[JOB SUMMARY:
 
The Patent Paralegal &ndash; London provides patent prosecution support through the preparation and submission of applications and documents to the European Patent Office (EPO) and United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (IPO). The role requires a comprehensive understanding of requirements and processes of EPO, IPO and PCT filings and the ability to manage an extensive docket. Assistance to the US-based domestic and foreign patent filing teams and with client and firm projects should be expected. The Patent Paralegal works closely with legal and paralegal staff and clients to ensure timely and accurate handling of deadlines. Flexibility in work schedule is required.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
1.         Assists with the preparation and submission of various types of patent applications at the EPO and IPO, including but not limited to convention and non-convention filings; National/Regional Phase entries; divisional applications; and UK Designs.
2.         Assists with the preparation and submission of documents relating to prosecution of EPO, IPO and PCT applications, such as office action responses and validations of EP patents.
3.         Monitors external and internal deadlines for assigned matters and acts to ensure deadlines are accurately and timely handled.
4.         Assists with portfolio and deadline management.
5.         Prepares client portfolio status and docket reports.
6.         Reviews incoming and outgoing EPO, IPO and PCT communications.
7.         Helps ensure that firm docket and file records are accurate, up to date, organised, and accessible.
8.         Prepares and sends reporting letters and updates client databases.
9.         Works closely with attorneys to support their needs and ensure seamless case management.
10.      Assists with transfers of client portfolios into the firm, including data audits; preparation of status and docket reports; and prosecution cost estimates.
11.      Assists with the onboarding of new legal and paralegal hires. Works with supervisor to train and guide junior level paralegals to ensure compliance with rules and laws of relevant jurisdictions and adherence to firm&rsquo;s best practices.
12.      Assists with firm and client projects.
13.      Conducts research and stays updated on changes in laws, rules, software systems, and platforms. Alerts supervisor of changes and discusses potential impact on procedures.
14.      Performs other duties relating to prosecution support such as quality control review of submissions to the EPO, IPO and PCT offices and maintenance of client information.]]></description>
