Description The Biomedical Equipment Technician supports maintenance, calibration, repair, and lifecycle management of medical equipment throughout the Northern Light Health network. BMETs work closely with clinical staff to ensure equipment safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance while supporting quality patient care. BMET II and III technicians may provide mentorship, technical leadership, project support, and advanced troubleshooting. 


Placement level will be determined based on education, experience, technical expertise, certifications, and demonstrated competencies. 


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

All Levels 




Work in patient-care areas while minimizing disruption to clinical operations. 






Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable patient privacy and information-security requirements. 






Follow infection-control procedures and facility access requirements. 






Respond professionally to urgent equipment-service needs. 








Use test equipment, hand tools, and manufacturer diagnostic software appropriate to assigned responsibilities. 






Maintain a clean and safe work environment. 






Comply with company policies, safety requirements, and applicable regulations. 






Participate in continuing education. 






Document maintenance, inspection, calibration, and repair activities accurately and timely in the equipment-management system. 






Participate in scheduled on-call, overtime, weekend, or emergency-response coverage as operationally required. 






Collaborate with manufacturers and vendors to obtain technical support and equipment updates. 






Support inventory management and tracking of biomedical equipment. 






Support equipment risk-assessment and preventive-maintenance program activities appropriate to the assigned BMET level. 






Perform other related duties as assigned. 




 


BMET I 




Perform routine inspections and maintenance on biomedical equipment. 






Assist in the installation, calibration, and validation of new biomedical equipment. 






Provide basic technical support and equipment-use guidance to clinical staff within assigned responsibilities. 






Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on assigned biomedical equipment using established procedures, escalating complex issues as appropriate. 




 


BMET II 




Conduct or support quality reviews of completed maintenance records and repair work. 






Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new biomedical equipment. 








Provide technical guidance, training, and day-to-day support to junior technicians and clinical staff. 






Independently perform inspection, preventive maintenance, safety testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of assigned biomedical equipment. 






Prioritize service requests and coordinate equipment availability with clinical departments. 






Support equipment installations, upgrades, recalls, and other technical projects. 




 


BMET III 




Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of highly complex biomedical systems. 






Coordinate complex technical escalations and equipment-update activities with manufacturers and vendors. 






Serve as a senior technical resource and provide mentorship, training, and support to BMET staff and clinical personnel. 






Participate in cross-functional teams for process improvement initiatives. 






Lead or support compliance initiatives related to equipment tracking, maintenance records, and corrective actions. 






Support equipment evaluation, standardization, procurement, implementation, and lifecycle-management decisions. 






Lead or coordinate equipment installations, upgrades, recalls, and lifecycle-management projects. 




 


Travel 

Travel within the Northern Light Health hospital network is required and is expected to represent approximately 0-15% of working time. 



 


Work Schedule 

Full-time schedule; specific shift and any on-call, weekend, or emergency coverage requirements will be discussed during the interview process. 



 


Qualifications 


Candidates will be evaluated and hired at the BMET I, BMET II, or BMET III level based on their education, experience, certifications, technical competencies, and operational needs.

BMET I 




Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field; graduation from a Department of Defense biomedical equipment maintenance program; or an equivalent combination of relevant education, technical training, and experience. 






Less than two years of biomedical equipment maintenance and repair experience. 






Foundational knowledge of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and computer-based systems. 






Ability to perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, safety testing, calibration, and basic repairs using established procedures and under general guidance. 






Ability to interpret basic schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation. 






Ability to recognize issues requiring escalation to a more experienced technician. 








Ability to accurately document work performed in the equipment-management system. 






Demonstrated commitment to developing technical proficiency across assigned equipment categories. 




BMET II 




Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field; graduation from a Department of Defense biomedical equipment maintenance program; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical training. 






Minimum of two years of progressively responsible biomedical equipment maintenance and repair experience. 






Advanced working knowledge of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, networked, and computer-based medical equipment systems. 






Ability to independently inspect, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair a broad range of general biomedical equipment. 






Ability to interpret schematics, service documentation, error logs, and diagnostic data. 






Ability to prioritize assigned workload and independently coordinate service activity with clinical departments. 






Ability to provide technical guidance, informal training, and day-to-day support to BMET I technicians. 






Experience communicating with manufacturers and vendors to resolve technical issues. 






Ability to support equipment evaluations, installations, upgrades, recalls, and small technical projects. 






Ability to conduct or support quality reviews of maintenance records and completed work. 






CBET or another applicable AAMI credential preferred. 




 


BMET III 




Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field; graduation from a Department of Defense biomedical equipment maintenance program; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical training. Bachelor&rsquo;s degree is preferred. 






Minimum of five years progressively responsible biomedical equipment maintenance, repair, and technical support experience. Eight years of experience is preferred. 






Advanced knowledge of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, networked, and computer-based medical equipment systems, with demonstrated expertise in complex or high-risk equipment. 






Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex or high-risk biomedical equipment and systems. 








Experience with basic medical imaging equipment, if included within the position&rsquo;s assigned equipment scope. 






Ability to serve as a senior technical resource and provide mentorship, training, and technical direction to BMET I and II technicians. 






Ability to lead or coordinate equipment installations, upgrades, recalls, lifecycle initiatives, and other technical projects. 






Strong project coordination skills, including planning work, coordinating stakeholders, tracking progress, identifying risks, and meeting deadlines.

Salary 



$20.37 - $36.73/hour. Candidates are compensated based on experience and qualifications.
Non-exempt
Salary bands are as follows:

BMET I: $20.37 - $25.46 / hour 
BMET II: $25.46 - $34.76 / hour 
BMET III: $33.30 - $36.73/hour

Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field; graduation from a Department of Defense biomedical equipment maintenance program; or an equivalent combination of relevant education, technical training, and experience. 






Less than two years of biomedical equipment maintenance and repair experience. 






Foundational knowledge of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and computer-based systems. 






Ability to perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, safety testing, calibration, and basic repairs using established procedures and under general guidance. 






Ability to interpret basic schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation. 






Ability to recognize issues requiring escalation to a more experienced technician. 








Ability to accurately document work performed in the equipment-management system. 






Demonstrated commitment to developing technical proficiency across assigned equipment categories. 




BMET II

Minimum of two years of progressively responsible biomedical equipment maintenance and repair experience. 






Advanced working knowledge of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, networked, and computer-based medical equipment systems. 






Ability to independently inspect, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair a broad range of general biomedical equipment. 






Ability to interpret schematics, service documentation, error logs, and diagnostic data. 






Ability to prioritize assigned workload and independently coordinate service activity with clinical departments. 






Ability to provide technical guidance, informal training, and day-to-day support to BMET I technicians. 






Experience communicating with manufacturers and vendors to resolve technical issues.

BMET III

Minimum of five years progressively responsible biomedical equipment maintenance, repair, and technical support experience. Eight years of experience is preferred. 






Advanced knowledge of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, networked, and computer-based medical equipment systems, with demonstrated expertise in complex or high-risk equipment. 






Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex or high-risk biomedical equipment and systems. 








Experience with basic medical imaging equipment, if included within the position&rsquo;s assigned equipment scope. 






Ability to serve as a senior technical resource and provide mentorship, training, and technical direction to BMET I and II technicians.

$20.00 - $43.41/hour. Candidates are compensated based on experience and qualifications.

Description
The Material Expediter is responsible for coordinating and expediting the movement of medical and non-medical supplies and equipment within the warehouse and distribution areas to ensure timely delivery to the appropriate locations. This role involves verifying shipments, managing inventory, and collaborating with warehouse personnel to maintain an efficient supply chain. The Material Expediter ensures compliance with hospital policies and DHA regulations while supporting logistics operations at BAMC. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  Coordinate and expedite the flow of materials, supplies, and equipment between storage and operational areas.
Verify incoming shipments for accuracy, ensuring proper documentation and routing to the correct locations or end users.
Process and route Class VIII medical materials, including controlled substances, temperature-sensitive medical products (TSMP), and hazardous materials, in accordance with BAMC and manufacturer guidelines.
Utilize automated systems such as bar code scanners, handheld terminals, and government database management systems to track and manage inventory.
Assist with inventory control by conducting location surveys, rotating stock, and reconciling discrepancies in automated tracking systems.
Identify and remove expired or unserviceable medical/surgical expendable supplies in coordination with Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) personnel.
Maintain proper documentation and ensure compliance with DHA policies and procedures related to material handling and distribution.
Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment as required to facilitate material movement.
Monitor and report on material shortages, delivery delays, or discrepancies to management for resolution.
Support logistics operations by preparing materials for shipment, loading/unloading trucks, and staging supplies for distribution.
Assist in organizing storage areas and optimizing space utilization.
Support periodic inventory audits and reconciliations.
Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 
Travel

 Occasional travel to associated medical facilities within a 40-mile radius of BAMC may be required (0-15%).

 
Work Schedule

Shifts are scheduled between Monday and Friday, from 0500 to 1700, with an 8.5 to 9-hour shift.
Each shift includes a 30 or 60-minute unpaid lunch.
Shifts are assigned by site lead upon start.

 
Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma or GED
Must be familiar with windows-based computer applications navigation and usage. Experience with DMLSS and Pyxis software is highly preferred.
Must speak, comprehend, read, and write English fluently.
Must have at least one (1) year experience in medical logistics, warehouse operations, or material handling

Description

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) - Level II is responsible for performing inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of medical and non-medical support equipment, including but not limited to medical package tools, generators, and environmental control units. The BMET II ensures all work is conducted in compliance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guidance, DoD instructions, applicable regulations, and unit directives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Must follow original equipment manufacturer guidance, AFI, regulations and unit direction.
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and calibration of biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations.
Diagnoses and troubleshoot malfunctions in medical devices, performing necessary repairs or coordinating with vendors for service when required.
Maintain detailed service records, documenting repairs, maintenance actions, and performance evaluations.
Assist in the installation and configuration of new biomedical equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
Life cycle management, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of medical and non-medical support equipment (oxygen generating systems, radiographic diagnostics equipment, life support systems, etc.).
Determines associated support items of equipment in order to perform scheduled services and maintenance repairs and calibration; supply support and provisioning requirements; and training requirements.
Prepares necessary support documentation and purchase requisitions of parts.

Description
The Biomedical Equipment Technician Level IV (BMET IV) serves as a subject matter expert (SME) within the M3D, providing enterprise-level technical support and strategic planning services. BMET IV personnel possess extensive experience in biomedical maintenance operations, policies, practices, and regulatory compliance. They support the Chief of M3D by conducting research, providing analysis, and offering recommendations on maintenance-centric initiatives and issues, ensuring continuous improvement and effectiveness within Army medical maintenance programs. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct research on maintenance issues and projects, providing reports, briefings, white papers, and articles. 
Analyze available data related to maintenance operations, business practices, and regulatory requirements, developing recommendations and strategic insights. 
Provide technical support for the command maintenance discipline program and maintenance assistance and instruction team. 
Develop and lead medical maintenance projects to optimize operations and management processes. 
Monitor MMQC compliance across all owning units, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures. 
Track and report compliance with alerts and recalls, ensuring proper sustainment and repair visibility. 
Maintain an understanding of Army medical maintenance capabilities, including those within Combat Support Hospitals (CSH), Medical Logistics Companies (MLC), and Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs). 
Develop and integrate policies, programs, and procedures that support sustained Army medical equipment maintenance. 
Use various programming languages to perform data management and transformation.  Programming languages may include Python, SQL, Visual Basic, R, Excel Functions, etc. 
Assist in the development and integration of new maintenance policies and programs. 
Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians and staff. 
Collaborate with Army medical maintenance stakeholders to enhance program efficiency. 
Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 
Travel

Qualifications: 

Bachelor&rsquo;s degree or higher in related field of study preferred.
A.A.S. in Medical Equipment Technology and/or graduate of DoD Medical Equipment Repairers Course
Eight (8) or more years of directly related experience with four (4) or more years supervisory experience in the biomedical field, technical certifications relating to position requirements, and proven technical writing skills.  
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Teams) 
Applicable client systems and maintenance databases 
Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). 
Strong knowledge of HTM best practices and regulatory requirements. 
Experience with Department of Defense medical lifecycle management and capital equipment planning. 
Data analysis experience with knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, Excel or similar business intelligence and data visualization tools required. 
Knowledge of Python, SQL, Visual Basic, R, Excel Functions programming languages, preferred. 
Six Sigma or Lean certification, preferred. 
Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or equivalent, preferred

 
Compensation

$90,000-$110,000

Must be able to pass client background screening for security clearance.

Oversee the planning and execution of projects related to equipment upgrades, installations, and other initiatives. 






Assisting with budget planning and cost-saving initiatives. 






Supporting cross-functional teams in medical equipment procurement. 






Coordinating vendor relations for equipment servicing and contract negotiations. 






Developing and implementing training programs for staff development. 




 


Supervisory Responsibilities 


Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 


 


Travel This position requires occasional travel (0-15%) within the NLH hospital network.

Qualifications 




Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Business, or a related field from a four-year college or university (Master&rsquo;s degree preferred). 






Minimum of 12 years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician or related field. 






Proven experience in project management, preferably in healthcare technology management or the medical device industry. 








Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards in healthcare technology management (e.g., Joint Commission, FDA). 






Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.  






Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.  






Adaptability to change, managing competing demands, and maintaining professionalism in high-pressure situations.  






Certification in healthcare technology management (e.g., CBET, CHTM), preferred. 






Certification in project management (e.g., PMP), preferred. 






Must possess a valid driver&rsquo;s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Description
The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) - Level II is responsible for performing inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of medical and non-medical support equipment, including but not limited to medical package tools, generators, and environmental control units. The BMET II ensures all work is conducted in compliance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guidance, DoD instructions, applicable regulations, and unit directives. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to established procedures to maintain equipment reliability and operational readiness.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Must follow original equipment manufacturer guidance, AFI, regulations and unit direction.
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and calibration of biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations.
Diagnoses and troubleshoot malfunctions in medical devices, performing necessary repairs or coordinating with vendors for service when required.
Maintain detailed service records, documenting repairs, maintenance actions, and performance evaluations.
Assist in the installation and configuration of new biomedical equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
Life cycle management, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of medical and non-medical support equipment (oxygen generating systems, radiographic diagnostics equipment, life support systems, etc.).
Determines associated support items of equipment in order to perform scheduled services and maintenance repairs and calibration; supply support and provisioning requirements; and training requirements.
Prepares necessary support documentation and purchase requisitions of parts.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate&rsquo;s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or related field OR graduated from the DoD Biomedical Maintenance Course or an accredited civilian Biomedical Maintenance Course OR CBET
Must graduate from the Planmeca digital dental course no later than 12 months after start.
Four (4) years of field experience in performing and managing: initial inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, life cycle management, and repair of medical equipment within OEM guidance, advanced: diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of medical and non-medical support equipment (oxygen generating systems, radiographic diagnostics equipment, advanced life support systems, etc.).
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a related field, preferred.
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
