Associate Senior Counsel - Latin America

Dynamic, pharmaceutical company located in Mexico City, Mexico seeks an Associate Senior Counsel - Latin America  The salary is commensurate with experience.

Primary Duties

The successful Associate Senior Counsel will report to the President of Asia and Latin America Region and be responsible for providing counsel specific to the company’s pharmaceutical regulatory needs in Mexico.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In charge of Legal & Compliance mainly for Mexico 
  • Give timely and appropriate legal and compliance advice on various business operation matters for management and other internal clients
  • Handle legal disputes, litigations or compliance issues, including timely communications with headquarters in Japan and with external counsels
  • Draft, review and give comments on contracts for execution
  • Enhance and maintain the corporate governance
  • Handle explicit or even potential compliance issue, including timely communications with headquarters in Japan
  • Conduct necessary legal and compliance trainings to local staff with a strong sense of responsibility and high standards of morals

Requirements

  • Professional license of a lawyer in Mexico is necessary; overseas law license or degree is preferred
  • At least seven (7) years of legal experience in private practice or in-house positions is necessary
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in Spanish and English
  • Progressive experience in pharmaceutical industry is preferred
  • Prior experience in compliance function is preferred 
  • Prior experience with multi-national corporations with a broad perspective on global or global corporate governance is preferred
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of the global pharmaceutical industry and Mexican law, especially business laws, labor law (including sexual harassment, power harassment), antitrust law, intellectual property law, and laws related to pharmaceutical industry as well as marketing code and violation cases
  • Good knowledge of contract executions, compliance and corporate legal matters
  • Good knowledge in anti-bribery/anti-corruption (not only in Mexico, but also include Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in the U.S. and the Bribery Act in the U.K.) 
  • Good experience of establishment of internal structure and drafting of internal rules, with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good experiences in employee training (for the need of legal and compliance training to employees as well as business partners)
