Position Profile:

The Senior Business Intelligence Developer reports directly to the Director of Development and is responsible for the ongoing and new development of internal and customer-facing reports. The position also includes designing, developing and maintaining the Safe Systems Data Warehouse as well as the processes that supply data to it. The Senior Business Intelligence Developer may be called upon to troubleshoot production environment and customer support issues.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Write high-quality code, documentation and unit tests to implement report or ETL designs as directed by manager or team lead
  • Responsible for customized and advanced report creation using SQL Server Reporting Services and Analysis Services (SSRS / SSAS)
  • Develop queries and stored procedures for data extraction
  • Perform ongoing support for reporting and business intelligence applications - including system monitoring, processing, user support and queries
  • Develop ad hoc reports as needed
  • Analyze database performance and makes adjustments to ensure maximum database efficiency
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of regular backup and replication procedures to ensure database availability and complete restore capability
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with other Safe Systems Service groups and customers to expedite delivery of Business Intelligence solutions
  • Contribute to the overall architecture of our reporting products, analyze and solve problems, and analyze new features and enhancements
  • Collaborate with other software engineers, managers and quality assurance
  • Perform unit testing and writes documentation so support his/her designs
  • Work with SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Service Integration Services and SQL Server (including developing SQL queries, stored procedures, functions and triggers)
  • Work with CVS for source control and CruiseControl for build activities
  • Work on Reporting and Business Intelligence initiatives of large scope/complexity where analysis of situations or data require a review of identifiable factors
  • Regularly exercise good judgment to determine appropriate action
  • Contribute to the completion of specific programs, projects and commitments established for the work unit while operating under the general direction of a manager or team lead
  • Mentor other direct/indirect team and company members
  • Educate peers and team members on industry best practices, design principles and implementation techniques
  • Lead any and/or all phases of the product development cycle from product definition and design, through implementation including:
    • Implementation and Testing
    • Performance Analysis
    • Design Specifications
    • Critical and High Visibility Customer Support
  • Participate and influence technical discussion within the immediate group and across groups, where evaluating and executing design and development plans for products are reviewed
  • Maintain close interaction with development team and management
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities that will contribute towards team, department, and company goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university in Computer Science or related field
  • 7-10 years’ experience including full life-cycle and functional/non-functional experience specifically on the Microsoft platform including SQL Server (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
  • Experience with ad-hoc reporting
  • Report/Query Debugging Tools
