The Director/Technical Director works closely with producers and technical crew to ensure the show rundown is executed cleanly and information is communicated accurately to production staff.  The Director / Technical Director executes NJTV newscasts, remote productions/uplinks, live/pre-tape productions and special programming.  Additional responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with producers and crew to create & organize production elements which include live shots, graphics, video playback and camera blocking;
  • Run daily crew meetings that include camera blocking and studio direction;
  • Select appropriate show music for animations, billboards and edited material;
  • Check graphics and audio deliverables to make sure they are suitable for air;
  • Build and organize switcher effects, transitions and specialty wipes;
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure all equipment is meeting expectations.
Required Skills

Qualified candidates will be detail oriented with proven leadership ability in and out of the control room. The ability to work collaboratively under tight deadlines keeping pace with fast moving shows will be necessary. Additional qualifications include:
• A minimum of 5 years of studio experience directing live, fast-paced news and or talk shows; candidates with experience in live, multi-camera studio production preferred;
• Proficiency with studio technology and remote operations, including Robotic Camera, Teleprompter, Lighting, Audio & Video Playback robotic camera systems and lighting; ability to identify and troubleshoot technical issues;
• Experience overseeing and managing control room staff;
• Detail-orientated and proficient in streamlining work flows for optimal efficiency
• Proficient in operation and building of effects on Ross Vision;
• Ability to work early mornings & holidays, and cover breaking news;
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs. and set / strike studio gear;
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Optional Skills

Candidates with proficiency in Dalet Galaxy or similar newsroom system and/or proficiency on Ross switchers are preferred.
