SERVICE WORKER/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II

Must have the physical, developmental and mental ability to perform job tasks, work efforts, responsibilities and duties of the job illustrated. The job description herein provides for the range of duties to be performed for this position. It is not intended to reflect all duties that are required within this position.
Primary operation of construction and maintenance equipment listed below at least 50% of work effort. Duties include the performance of manual laboring tasks.
Operates one or more of the following:
- Boring Machine
- Skid Loader
- Boom/Crane Mounted Truck
- Vacuum Truck
- Mounted Backhoe/End Loader
- 5 yard & 10 yard Dump Truck
May operate smaller equipment such as forklifts or other light equipment. Operates heavier equipment on a temporary, emergency or trainee basis.
Washes, cleans and provides routine maintenance on equipment. Performs manual laboring tasks as assigned. May act as lead worker when assigned.
Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and use of assigned equipment. Knowledge of traffic and other regulations governing the operation of equipment. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions in the operation of equipment. Ability to make routine maintenance checks and emergency repairs of equipment. Ability to see, hear sounds at a normal level, ambulate independently, drives from work site to work site, bend, stoop, sit and stand.
Ability to use multi-hand and/or foot controls. Ability to perform tasks that require eye and hand coordination. Must be able to lift and carry materials that are a minimum of five (5) pounds and greater with the average weight being forty-five (45) pounds. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work in all weather and environmental conditions (i.e.: sun, rain, cold, swamp, ditches, dirt, sewer systems, and water systems).
Graduate of an accredited High School or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma, and six (6) months experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the equipment listed above. Must have appropriate Water Distribution License or obtain within (1) year of hire date (Rule 62-699 by the FDEP).
Must possess a valid driver's license and able to secure a valid Florida Commercial Class "A" driver's license at the time of employment within this classification.
Must have a home telephone as employee is subject to call out which may include after-hours duty to assist in emergencies.
A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications with the exception of licensure.
This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.

Work Schedule: Days: Monday – Friday - Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
Rate of Pay: $12.90 (Non Exempt) Hourly Compensation
*As with many of the hourly (non-exempt) positions with Polk County, this position is a contact to hire position meaning that it is staffed through Source2, a business partner of Polk County for a probationary period (usually 6 months) before being considered for hire directly with the county.*
