Title: Vice President, Title Insurance Underwriting

Location: Radnor, PA

Vice President, Title Insurance Underwriting is a position which works under minimal supervision and is responsible for overseeing the national title underwriting function. This position plays a critical role in managing risk, ensuring compliance, and supporting the company's growth and profitability while maintaining risk centric policies and procedures. 

As a dynamic and resourceful professional, we will rely on you to perform the following duties:
  • Develop and implement underwriting strategies that align with the company's goals and risk tolerance. Evaluate the risk associated with insuring real estate transactions, considering factors such as property value, relevant local law, and market conditions.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure consistent and accurate underwriting decisions.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management, highlighting key underwriting metrics, risks, and performance.
  • Create underwriting policies and guidelines, ensuring they comply with industry regulations and legal requirements and ensure that all underwriting practices adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, including compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Implement control processes to maintain the accuracy, consistency and integrity of underwriting decisions and documentation.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks associated with underwriting decisions, including the identification and resolution of high liability transactions including re-insurance applications, high-risk coverage requests, and delegation of authorities.
  • Implement documentation standards for Underwriters inclusive of High Liability exposures for tracking and review.
  • Keep the underwriting team current with industry best practices and provide ongoing training to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as sales, claims, and compliance to address complex underwriting issues and support the company's overall operations.
  • Work with customers, including real estate agents, lenders, and attorneys, to resolve underwriting-related inquiries and issues. Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancements within the underwriting department.
  • Stay current on changes in real estate laws, regulations, and court rulings that may impact the underwriting process.
  • Be active in ALTA events and symposiums. Participates in recruitment, selection, training, development, and recognition of underwriting candidates.
  • Contribute to the periodic review of regional underwriter authority levels including new hires.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
  • JD – Juris Doctor.  
  • 10+ years of Risk management and title insurance underwriting in multiple states.
  • Title insurance underwriting experience and real estate transactional background required.
  • Prior management experience with increasing responsibility in a risk management or similar role.
  • Bar License – single state. Willingness to secure license in additional states as warranted by corporate growth.
  • Maintain flexible hours and work location.
  • Knowledge of ALTA policies and forms.
  • Advanced knowledge of contract drafting and negotiations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen, leadership, and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Excellent management principles and techniques with advanced business and executive leadership skills.
  • Highly developed negotiation skills with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong analytical and strategic decision-making skills, with good business judgement.
  • Demonstrates professionalism with integrity, and adherence to ethical standards.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to form and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, vendors, and management.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
