Equipment Operator III - Utilities and Solid Waste
Pay rate: $17.63 per hour
Hours: Full time M-F
Please note, this position will be consist of a rotating shift (1st shift - 07:00 a.m.- 03:30 p.m.) (2nd shift - 03:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.) You must be willing to work both shifts on a rotation basis
CONTRACT position with reSOURCE Government, NOT directly with Martin County
Must be able to pass criminal background, drug testing and MVR check

SUMMARY

Skilled work in the operation of multipurpose heavy construction and maintenance type equipment relating to maintenance, repair and construction.

Primary job will be operating VAC TRUCK in outdoor setting working with sewer and wastewater.

In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in maintaining, repairing and installing utilities infrastructure and features.
 
Maintains accurate records in conformance with established procedures to ensure projects are completed accurately and according to schedule.
 
Performs mechanical and preventative maintenance on equipment.
 
Maintains a daily log sheet of activities.
 
Acts as crew leader on preventative maintenance as assigned.
 
Daily assignments may require the operation of the following equipment, but not limited to:  Backhoe and front-end loader combination, front end loaders, dump trucks, transport trailers, heavy excavators, bulldozers, graders, diesel pumps, water tankers, vac-truck, sweeper truck, sawblade boom mower, bucket truck, grapple truck and equipment found in the lower classes of Equipment Operator I and II.
 
Operates backhoe and front-end loader combination, air compressor, diesel pump, dump truck, hydraulic pushing machines and tapping machine.
 
Performs work related to this job description as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and effective precautionary measures necessary to prevent accidents.
 
Knowledge of the hazards involved in the use of heavy equipment and safety precautions to be taken.
 
Knowledge of internal combustion engines and some skill in their repair.
 
Skilled in the operation of heavy construction equipment.
 
Physical strength and agility required to engage in strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions. Available to work exceptional hours due to an emergency.
 
Ability to read and understand as-built drawings and follow general instructions relating to construction and maintenance operations.
 
Ability to perform physical work which includes, but is not limited to, climbing ladders, stooping, and lifting objects up to fifty (50) pounds.
 
Ability to use tools which require a high degree of dexterity.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must possess a High School Diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and three (3) years' experience in the operation of heavy automotive equipment including experience
 
Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B with air brakes no restrictions on airbrakes and tanker vehicle endorsement at the time of appointment and continue to maintain such license throughout employment in this class.
 
May need to obtain a ``C'' Collection Technician Certification within eighteen (18) months of appointment based on assignment of area.
