Position Summary

The Family Allies Family Finder will act as the centralized point of contact for all related duties in searching for immediate and extended family members of children involved in the dependency system.   The Family Finder position will work to explore all family connections and assess the willingness/availability of family members to participate in the dependency case process to offer the best placements for the children in care.  They will connect extended family and informal supports to the family to work with improving safety concerns, permanency, and well-being of children.  The Family Finder position related duties will include diligent searches, participating in case transfer staffing’s, data entry, collection of relatives and extended family members, completion of home studies and reporting and reconciliation of information while working alongside the Child Welfare Specialist team. 

Technical/Functional Expectations

1.       Family Finding: Perform detailed search of immediate family members and extended family members to complete family trees and identify possible relative placements and supports for children in care.

2.       Diligent Search:  Complete diligent searches on absent parents or relatives on dependency cases.

3.       Internet Savvy: The ability to utilize multiple internet search browsers as well as social media to conduct searches to identify and contact family members. 

4.       Data Integrity: Assists and provides internal controls in order to authenticate data integrity.

5.       Meeting Attendance: Attends staff meetings, in-service trainings and other meetings or conferences as necessary in order to share and gather information.

6.       Other duties as required: Job performance requires fulfilling other incidental or related duties as assigned, assisting and training others, and performing or covering duties of other members in the child welfare system from time to time for ongoing growth and development.

Educational and Experience Requirements

1.       BA/BS – Bachelor’s Degree required in a social work or related area of study from an accredited college or university required. (Related degrees are Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Counselling, Special Education, Education, Human Development, Child Development, Family Development, Marriage and Family Therapy)

2.       Two years’ experience working with at risk children and families preferred

3.       Child Welfare Case Management Certification
