Job Summary:
We are seeking a Solutions Architect to lead the full solution development lifecycle, from business case, through production support, for Cognos BI/DW and TM1 applications. The Solutions Architect serves as an Oracle SQL DBA to provide a high-availability platform for hosted applications.
The Position will:- Maintain a sound, company-wide solution strategy road map for IBM Cognos and Oracle technologies. Monitor and/or perform ongoing systems maintenance and enhancement of complex custom and enterprise applications to ensure proper application operation, functional efficiency and effectiveness.
- Research, identify, and evaluate new technologies and product solutions within a specialized area to meet current and future business requirements for strategic system initiatives. Survey the technical landscape for solution insights, direction, vendors and methods. Adjust company-wide solution strategy per technology advancement and from implementation experience.
- Suggest short and long-term training (IT and users) plans per each solution road map. May oversee the development and delivery of user training programs. Provides technical guidance in the development of training programs for very complex systems.
- Develop and deliver presentations to explain concepts and ideas in addressing highly complex issues.
- Act independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments.
- Technically advises other developers and users. Provide technical assessment of staff involved in development and implementation projects. May provide direction to others on project teams.
- Have daily interaction and effective communication with other IT staff, IT management, and users regarding the development, implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of information technology solutions. Contacts pertain to significant matters often involving coordination among different departments and Groups.
- Frequently contact and gather highly-technical information from vendors and solution providers in the relevant industries.
- Influence project teams to expand the use of IT solutions to new applications and to guide system development toward company’s strategic solution direction.
- Work on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining solutions.
Qualified candidates will possess:- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology with 12 or more years experience in BI/DW solution development and implementation (8+ years in IBM Cognos BI and Oracle Data Warehouse and Discoverer), including 4 or more years experience in Oracle DBA and TM1 administration and application development.
- Graduate degree(s) in Information Technology preferred.
- Expert knowledge of complex heterogeneous systems environments (Windows and AS400), application development methodology (SDLC and others), business workflows and processes, Web application architecture, current business application technology, and analytical/systems tools.
- Business acumen and expert analytical and problem solving skills. A quick learner and resourceful.
- Proficient organizational and project management skills, PMP certification preferred.
- Proficient presentation, negotiation and persuasive skills.
- Ability to think outside of the box, create improvement solutions based on current business processes and practices.
- Ability to share and communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to technical staff, IT and senior management, outside technical resources and vendors.
- Ability to plan, adjust and maximize long-term benefits while implementing solutions vertically (in stages) and horizontally (across multiple organizations).
