Due to our exceptional growth and success, we are recruiting for a Nutrition Support Dietitian to join our team in St. Louis, MO!

SUMMARY
Directs the total care for BioScrip nutrition patients by coordinating care with patients, physicians, insurance companies and home health providers to optimize clinical outcomes in an efficient and profitable manner. Performs nutritional assessments to formulate and adjust nutritional goals for individual patients. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  2. Reviews new nutrition patient referrals and ensures clinical and fiscal appropriateness of ordered products and services.
  3. Advises patients and their families on nutrition support administration, water delivery, accesses and pump management.
  4. Documents all interventions pertaining to nutritional care in patients' electronic medical record.
  5. Maintains knowledge of products and reimbursement guidelines to effectively answer questions for patients, referral sources, prescribers and the organization’s employees.
  6. Performs ongoing clinical review of nutrition patients according to age-appropriate policies.
  7. Participates in performance improvement activities, data collection, outcomes measurement and multidisciplinary nutrition care planning.
  8. Understands Medicare qualification and billing practices for parenteral and enteral nutrition therapies. Reviews and oversees documentation obtainment for justification of nutrition services as requested.
  9. Sets high goals and quality comprehensive services to all customers and coworkers through a team approach.
  10. Uses clinical data to identify and diagnose nutrition-related problems, selects appropriate interventions, tracking progress toward goals.  Performs nutritional assessments using various techniques including but not limited to: estimation of nutrient intake, calculation of nutritional requirements, anthropometrics, evaluation of selected laboratory results and assessment of drug-nutrient interactions.  Communicates findings of nutritional assessments to appropriate disciplines and documents with progress notes and assessments of patients’ medical records.
  11. Develops and implements written nutrition plans of care, in conjunction with physicians, healthcare personnel, patients and caregivers.
  12. Obtains nutrition orders from qualified healthcare professionals in accordance with law and regulations.  Completes medical documentation associated with orders as assigned (Durable Medical Equipment Information Form, etc.).
  13. Covers on-call duties as assigned.   
  14. Represents the organization at various clinical or sales meetings; promotes existing and new programs as requested
  15. Solid knowledge of, and compliance with, organizational policies and procedures.
  16. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach outward, and handle/finger.
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach above shoulder, kneel and bend.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of registered dietetics program (recognized by Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics). Current registration as Registered Dietitian with Commission for Dietetic Registration.  Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (or within 6 months of hire).  Licensed in state of residency (if licensure is available) and in good standing. Masters Degree Preferred.  Minimum of two (2) years nutrition support experience is required for both pediatric and adult patient populations. Oncology experience is highly desired.  Prior DME, Infusion or Home Health experience is preferred.  Experiential requirements may be waived in lieu of evidence of progressive growth in and attainment of the skills necessary to perform the required duties.  Must have valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record which meets organization’s standards.

  • Knowledge of parenteral and enteral nutrition reimbursement: state, federal and commercial. 
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret clinical information appropriate to duties and responsibilities assigned.  Ability to operate information systems, follow policy, complete required forms, and prepare reports.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from referral sources, managers, patients, employees, payors and the general public.
 
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as parenteral and enteral nutrition formula calculations, percentages, and volume. 
 
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of abstract variables.
