PERMIT TECHNICIAN I

(Building/Codes)

 

This position is recruited and staffed under Source2-Not BoCC

 

 

Must have the physical, developmental and mental ability to perform job tasks, work efforts, responsibilities and duties of the job illustrated below:

 

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:  Public contact and technical work reviewing construction permit applications for compliance with appropriate county ordinances, state statutes, federal regulations and internal policies and procedures.  Checks for compliance with the Land Development Code (LDC) including lot size, density, set backs, road frontage, shoreline proximity and allowable uses.  Identifies projects in flood zones, stamps plans and ensures that applicant is aware of elevation requirements.  Checks contractor license file for expired permits.  Coordinates with Plans Examiners as required.  Assures that necessary information is provided on application and that all required outside agency approvals have been obtained before permit issue.  Assigns fees and processes payments.  Enters application information to computer system accurately and completely.  Places and removes flood zone, Notice of Commencement and other inspection or project holds in computer permit file as appropriate.  Generates computer reports, handles mobile home park registration, provides land use information, and assists cashier, reception/switchboard and radio room personnel as required.  Performs related duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:  Knowledge of the LDC and State and Federal construction permitting requirements. Ability to read legal descriptions, and review and evaluate permit applications for compliance with applicable County, State and Federal rules, regulations, statutes and ordinances.  Ability to exercise independent judgment in reviewing information and authorizing permit issue.  Ability to communicate effectively.  Ability to meet and deal courteously, professionally and effectively with customers.    Ability to use basic computer software. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have a minimum of five (5) years clerical and/or administrative building construction, new development, real estate, building/zoning codes or related experience.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of employment.  A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Must obtain license as a Notary Public within six (6) months of employment.

 

 

Location:  Building Division-Bartow FL

Work Schedule:  Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM

Rate of pay:  $13.30 per hour

Closing:  Pending-Will close without notice
