MAJOR FUNCTION
 
Perform paraprofessional, support services for Code Enforcement Investigators. Perform a variety of tasks involving legal research, preparation of case files and legal documents.
 
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
 
Conducts legal research for assigned code violation cases, either in-house or at the courthouse.  Responsible for preparing code enforcement information/forms for Special Magistrate Hearing. Receives and reviews code enforcement complaints/investigation requests, verifies information necessary to prepare files/records. Keys information into database system.  Prepares required written notices for mailings and for postings. Handles administrative processing of cases, including factual investigation (owners of record, correct deed, etc.), preparation of necessary documents for processing case to Hearing. Performs clerical and other record keeping duties.  Receives, verifies and files various reports and records.
 
Deals with the public via telephone or in person, guiding them according to Code Enforcement established procedures. Discusses, reviews and/or researches code enforcement inquiries and/or complaints to advise or resolve citizen complaints, confers with the public, and other county, regional,  and state agencies, as well as attorneys regarding the receipt of case file information and coordination of case review as necessary.  Performs related duties as required.
 
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
 
Knowledge of legal research procedures and techniques.  Knowledge of business writing techniques/ skills, spelling and basic mathematics. Considerable knowledge of ordinances, Land Development Code and general regulatory codes. Ability to learn the operating methods and procedures, following and adhering to prescribed routines of the code compliance regulations, law, practices and record keeping system utilized. Ability to operate personal computer, remote computer terminal and support software utilized. Ability to assist investigators via radio communication. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, officials and other employees. Must function as a team player, assisting in any area needed.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 
Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.  Must have a minimum of three (3) years clerical office experience, two (2) of which are related to the code enforcement process and included dealing with the public regarding service problems/inquiries/ matters.
 
Must be able to type a minimum of 35 CWPM with a maximum of 10 errors.  Must be able to utilize all features afforded by word processing or other required software and CRT equipment utilized..
 
A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
 

 
Location:  Building Division-Codes Enforcement-Bartow FL
Work Schedule:  8:00 AM 5:00 Monday– Friday
Rate of Pay:  $12.00 per hour
