Laser Operator/Technician (Second Shift)
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
 
Performs production runs and preventative maintenance on laser equipment when necessary.  Works with CNC controls and programs to ensure proper nest is set on corresponding machine.
 
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  1. Locate scheduled jobs for daily production via report from Production Control or Manager’s direction.
  2. Locate material needed for production run.
  3. Calculate best machine to use for efficiency based on the information provided on production report/nest.
  4. Ensure proper program configurations are in place to match the laser machine for job run.
  5. Load selected machine with appropriate material.
  6. Load and save program in machine
  7. Set up laser via ensuring correct programs are in place
  8. Cut first part to determine edge quality and ensure specifications
  9. Adjust accordingly based on first cut findings
  10. Acquire first piece inspection
  11. Based on first piece inspection, either troubleshoot and tweak accordingly, or run production .
  12. Record counts and quantities correctly as set up per protocol and record in Job Boss.
  13. PM’s should be scheduled and performed according to the guidelines set by the manufacturer of the machine.
  14. Machine should be purged per attached PM instructions.
  15. Various items such as, but not limited to, chiller, mirrors, optics rootsblower, pumps and oil changes should be maintenanced and repaired as necessary.
  16. Outside and inside of machine should be cleaned allowing resonator to be dust-free.
  17. Prepare and cut new grates as necessary.  Notify proper authorities for material needed to perform this operation.
  18. Ensure proper gas bottles are installed to correct machine.
  19. Provide telephone support to off shift operators if needed due to down machinery.
  20. Represent the Company in a professional, positive manner.
  21. Other jobs and duties as assigned
 
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
 
  1. Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally with both management and co-workers.  English is the primary language required.  Bi-lingual is a plus.
  2. Ability to be versatile and work independently or in groups, while achieving goals
  3. Clear understanding of laser operations and nesting
  4. Working knowledge of MS Office software
  5. Working knowledge of Production Planning Software (Job Boss)
  6. Ability to schedule and multi-task
  7. Ability to organize and plan effectively and be able to redirect with minimal notice.
8.   Strong ability to perform mathematical computations critical to documenting correct counts for inventory and bill of material processing.
 
 
 
WORK ENVIROMENT:
100% of job function is performed in a manufacturing setting.  Use of personal computer and telephone are necessary tools to perform job effectively. Other office equipment use is performed as needed. General production noise is encountered continuously throughout the workday.  Earplugs are required in the production environment as well as steel-toe footwear.  90% of position requires standing while remaining time is used sitting to complete paperwork.   Temperatures in production vary and become extreme at times based on general weather temperature and conditions.
 
PHYSICAL DEMAND:
This position requires frequent standing and lifting as well as keyboarding and/or programming. Fatigue mats and necessary safety equipment provided.
 
EDUCATIONAL REQUIRMENTS:
High school diploma required in order to effectively read, write and speak accordingly.  Associate, Bachelor or Technical degree preferred.  Strong math skills are necessary for this position as well as ability to read blueprints, laser nests and diagrams.
