Survey Technician I
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Assist RPLS in the development of property surveys and survey analysis. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsibilities include analyzing and interpreting data; survey calculations; legal descriptions; preparing topographic surveys; researching, reading, and plotting deeds; preparing boundary parcel maps and ALTA Land Title Survey maps; and writing metes and bounds descriptions based on the Surveyor’s final boundary solution.
  • Balancing traverse networks
  • Prepare final topographic and boundary surveys, detailed construction drawings, topographical profiles, and related maps and specifications used in planning and construction of civil engineering projects.
  • Draft detailed drawings of structures and installations such as roads, culverts, fresh water supply, sewage disposal systems, dikes, wharfs, and breakwaters.
  • Perform inspection of jobs when needed and may accompany survey crew to locate construction markers or to collect data required for the preparation of construction drawings.
  • Assist in the analysis of reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to plan and design projects.
  • Prepare design computations and quantity estimates.
  • Perform design of portions of routine projects under direction of project engineer.
  • Perform drafting on a regular basis to reduce designs to final drawings.
  • Prepare preliminary construction, topographic and boundary surveys for review and further direction by the RPLS or Project Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates must have at least 2 years of office Survey experience using AutoCAD and COGO
  • Two year certificate from college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Carlson (SurvCAD), GPS and field survey a plus.
  • Understand design layouts, boundary and topographic surveys and construction staking.
  • Understand surveying terminology and can operate surveying equipment including total stations, transit and levels.
  • Candidates should possess excellent oral and written communication skills along with a strong mathematical aptitude.
