Business intelligence (Cognos)

Predictive analytics (SPSS)
 
We work with our clients across the financial services, hospitality and gaming, industrial/manufacturing, and health care sectors. We are looking for consultants to help us expand our track record of success as we mentor new and existing clients into the art of the possible for BA.
 
While our openings are more immediate in the predictive analytics (SPSS) space, exposure to and integration with Cognos and TM1 will be part of the overall mission. The role of the consultant will therefore grow and expand as we bring more solutions online.
 
Critical for our success are consultants with an astute business acumen, who can speak the language of business and connect the various components of our BA offerings with concrete business outcomes.
 
We are looking for interested parties who have an interest in helping businesses transform themselves into higher states of operational efficiency, gain new customers, and reduce loss leaders and fraud.
 
Aviana is hiring at three levels; experienced consultants who have many years' experience in this functional domain space (Senior Strategist), mid-level consultants with more modest experience (Consultant), and those with advanced educational backgrounds who have aptitude and interest in working in this arena, but not necessarily as much practical background (Junior Consultants).

Requirements:
·       Experience in one or more: Finance, Banking, Insurance, Manufacturing, Retail, Healthcare, Gaming & Hospitality. Plusses: practical experience in Hotel Revenue Management, retail pricing/pricing elasticity, hospitality rate fencing, financial forecasting, gaming industry experience, industrial engineering/operations management, risk management, marketing campaign analytics.
·       Experience with Statistical tools such as SPSS. Statistics and similar; strong plus for SPSS Modeler or SPSS Clementine.
·       Will consider candidates with either strong SAS and/or R-only backgrounds, who have demonstrated ability to cross-train into SPSS technologies.
·       SQL code writing proficiency.
·       Familiarity with linear and non-linear modeling techniques.
·       Business Intelligence user experience preferred, such as Cognos or Micostrategy
·       Financial forecasting user experience preferred, such as TM1 or Essbase.
·       Ability to execute according to the Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining, or CRISP-DM
·       Experience working with datamarts, disparate data tables, data cleansing methods, ETL techniques, model-building, statistical techniques, and various evaluation and deployment scenarios.
·       Proven expertise, such as publication in a research or trade journal is a strong plus.
·       Exceptional personal skills is a must
·       Ability to travel
 
Responsibilities:
There are three levels of consultants for hire, from Junior to more Senior roles. The following is a general description of consultant class, followed by some differentiating characteristics of the three levels.
 
In general the Consultant will be responsible for front-line implementation of statistical and data mining models to help Aviana and IBM clients (1) improve their profitability, (2) generate incremental revenue, (3) become more efficient enterprises, (4) gain new customers and (5) mitigate loss & fraud.
 
The consultant will accomplish these tasks by use of IBM-SPSS software, according to the CRISP-DM process (Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining). This process requires the consultant to help define business problems, understand the data available for solutions, prepare the data, build the models, evaluate the models for accuracy and structure the deployment of results to positively impact the business.
 
Some examples of potential projects may include helping clients improve their ability to generate financial forecasts, improve demand planning, providing better guidance for Business Intelligence dashboard design, and improve marketing response and segmentation models, identifying patterns of loss and fraud, reducing defects within industrial manufacturing processes.
 
The role is ideal for the applied researcher who thrives by thinking on their feet in solving novel business problems alongside like-minded professionals, who can work with confidence in client-facing engagements, and describe key findings to business leadership. While the successful consultant will be expected to be able to creatively solve problems on their own, regular mentoring support will be provided and it is expected that every consultant will provide collaborative assistance to the others on best practices they discover.
 
Depending upon aptitude, industry experience and overall fit, new hires will be cross-trained in the relevant IBM-SPSS tool-kits by Aviana to ensure consistent performance in the field.
 
Three consultant class levels:
Junior-level consultants have had less practical experience implementing predictive analytics solutions (e.g. 1-3 years, ad hoc projects). Juniors would serve on teams with active mentorship from the mid-level and senior-level roles.
Candidates with more experience (e.g. 3-7 years, demonstrable ROI) would be considered for a mid-level role, who may have ad-hoc team lead responsibilities and assist with client pre-sales opportunities.
 
Senior Strategists are candidates with the most experience, who are recognized by their peers as thought leaders in the space, have substantial cross-industry activity, and the highest levels of ROI from use of SPSS predictive analytics. They will have aptitude and strength in managing projects and ad-hoc teams, mentoring more junior-skilled folks on best practices, and assisting in pre-sales efforts where needed. May be responsible for first-of-a-kind implementations, then documenting procedures for maintenance and secondary builds by mid-levels. Will also help communicate the vision of predictive analytics with executive leaders throughout client organizations.
